Is Honor 8 a better value than iPhone 7?

I saw the Honor 8 at Best Buy and really liked it. However, it seems like it is priced to high. If I bought an Honor 8, in a couple years I probably would get like $35 trade in value for it. Compared to an iPhone 7 32 Gb, which cost $650, I would get at least $200 for. So the money I save up front for the Honor 8, I would lose in a couple of years when I trade it in. Also, if the iPhone 7 breaks, I can go to a Apple store and get a replacement under warranty. If the Honor 8 breaks, I'm out of a phone. I really like the Honor 8, I am hoping they drop the price by $100 like they did with their watch. I own the Huawei watch and got it because it was such a good deal. The Honor 8 not so much...yet. Does anyone think the Honor 8 is a better value than a iPhone 7, S7, G5, etc.? If the value is the same, isn't the iPhone 7 the automatic winner because of specs and software updates?

There is a ton of promotions right now, at newegg you can get a free pair of JBL headphones and everywhere is offering a case. The headphones you could probably sell for at least 50-60 bucks helping with the sting of purchase. At the end of the day this phone doesnt change the difference between apple and android, its more or less going to be the same. If you can stomach the cost of entry for ios and thats the os you prefer go for it. If not, the 8 seems to be a solid and fairly well reviewed device. Black Friday is around the corner and I am sure you can get this phone for a significant discount if you choose to wait too.

My wife just switched over from an iPhone 6 to the Honor 8. She loves her honor more than the iPhone for a few reasons. Battery life, Android wear capabilities with the gear s2, call quality is better, and the camera on the Honor is better.

It's a big transition for her since she's been on iOS for about 5-6 years now, but overall she is happy.

I really think that they are trying to pull in ios users, especially with the way their UI is.

I wonder if it could hit $300 on Black Friday. Considering that there are deals $350 now... I would say it is possible.

Of course you can get an iPhone 7 for $350 with a bit of work and commitment too...

If you can finagle an iPhone 7 at that price you could easily sell it for profit and buy the Honor 7 at a steep discount.

Well , you would need to be in finance contract, and many won't buy a used device on a finance contract because they would have a brick if the original purchaser decided to stop paying off the device. Certain places also don't allow you to sell devices on finance contract.

I think the way I was looking at it originally was wrong. The Honor 8 is closer to the iPhone 7 Plus in specs, minus the stereo speakers. The Honor 8 screen is 5.2" which is closer to the iPhone 7 Plus in size than the 7's 4.7" screen. The iPhone 7 Plus has the same type of twin 12 Mp camera system, while the 7 does not. So looking at it like that, the Honor 8 is a far better deal than I originally gave it credit for and I plan on picking one up today!

Some good points. But Just remember though that the iPhone 7 Plus has 2x optical zoom, whereas the honor 8 does not. Other than that, good assessment! Not everyone cares about the 2x optical zoom, and it won't matter much if you are just shooting for posting on Facebook or the like

Today you interact with your smartphone more than you would with close family and friends. It's all about the user experience. Instead of looking at the re-sale value in the "future" I think you should be looking at which device gives you the best user experience and fits your needs best today. That should then define the true value of what to you is the "better" device to buy.

It also depends on your situation... If you have a little flexibility in spending, Sure. If your budget is super tight then resell could be more important to you.

Don't forget Uncle Sam...That $650 figure you're using (depending on ur state) could easily be another 40+ bucks in taxes... And ya won't recoup that when you resell....

And where is it selling for $650.00? i thought the 32 GB version was starting @ $749.00...Maybe you meant iphone 6s? or did i read wrong (which happens all the time- i'm a skimmer : )

Oh my bad... i didn't know he was comparing a 4.7 inch to a 5.2...Thought he was thinking of getting the 7+... The jump in screen size alone is reason to get the Honor 8 ....Its hard these days to use a 4.7 as a daily driver for EVERYTHING imho....

I think you have a great point about taxes though. Ugh.

It comes down to personal preference. My wife went from the 5s to the 6 to the SE because she wanted the small size

But with regards to the 7 plus... It starts at $769

Or just buy it in a state without sales tax.

Most ppl do the EIP so buying it a state (when the phone is BRAND NEW no less) that won't charge you tax is rarely an option....

Personally, if i purchased phones solely based on resale value i'd still be rockin' a Motorola Razr flip phone...lol

I just calculate the approx loss, split that up into the weeks (yes i said WEEKS...lol) i own it and just rationalize, ,"well it cost me approx 25 to 30 a week to rent this GREAT 'state of the art' piece of tech", then i sell it and its ON TO THE NEXT : )

Who knows in a couple of Years A Honor 8 this good will sell for a lot more than $35. A $700 smartphone will resell for half in a couple of years. A $400 Honor 8 will not sell for $35 like a previous post suggested. This phone is that good and will hold its value and resell for a lot more. Great job Huawei.
