Is it best to preorder it now, or wait for it to be reviewed?

I see that many of you have preordered your Primes already! Congratulations! As much as I want to preorder mine right now as well, I am a little cautious.

Every single time a new device I have been waiting for came out, I bought it the day of its release. I let it be reviewed by members of forums for like 8 hours, then went out to the store. Every single gadget I purchased that quickly, gave me horrible luck

The Sidekick LX? All sidekicks discontinued after about a year and a half because of the service. (Yes, there is a new sidekick now, but there was a big gap.)

The Motorola Cliq? Motorola's (first?) android phone? Eventually fell through about a year later, and received many complaints because of the lack of updates, and reached EOL soon afterwards.

The Thunderbolt? I read forum reviews for about 3 hours, saw some complaints about battery life, figured it wouldn't be that bad, then went out to get it. Sure, a whole lot of things have improved, but there were still things that went wrong in the beginning.

What I am trying to say is, although the specs are breathtaking, are you sure it will perform [almost] flawlessly? I don't want to spend $500, then get it and find a bunch of problems. I just don't know whether or not to take that big of a risk.

ALSO! Since we don't have a final release date, how are you all coping? I mean, you just laid down a bunch of money, and you don't know [exactly] when it is coming! :p

That's the beauty of Amazon pre-orders -- you don't get charged until they ship.

As for pre-ordering vs. waiting... with the run of luck you've had, I'd suggest trying to wait it out until some thorough reviews start popping up. But I'm not exactly one to talk, given that I already pre-ordered.

i registered specifically to give my opinion (though i do hope to be a more frequent poster on here).

for me, a soon to be owner of this awesome tablet, it comes down only to a few things. while i am definately going to get the tablet, and most likely dock, i am not jumping the gun on preordering. i too have fallen for some early purchase disaster scenarios, so i am going to patiently wait, for a scheduled launch date, for that date to arrive, and even then most likely a month or so after.

this device has had my name on it since announcement, but i want to be sure that i am not one of the poioneers who experience all the hardships so that others down the line may benefit once any problems, and lets face it there are sure to be atleast some minor problems, nothing is perfect, arise from the first batch sold.

the other things im waiting for come from a smart shopper persepctive, the last tablet released was sold in a bundle package with the tablet and dock for a reduced price, am i willing to be one of the first to own a possibly flawed tablet and pay extra? for me that answer is no, but of course that is all relevent to each persons own specific situation.

a big factor that any buy should look into though is protection, so far all we know of is one accessory (aside from the dock) for the tablet, an origami "smart" cover. sure the tablet will most likely fit into other cases and things, but id like a large variety to protect my device before i spend money on it, guarentee that your invest is a good one by making sure you can protect it.

once there are more cases and things available, and we see if there will be a bundle package, i will jump on it. patience is key.

I am glad to find someone in relatively the same boat I am in.

However, if I do end up waiting to purchase the tablet until after it comes out, which I will most likely do, but I may not wait an entire month. Great reviews from reliable websites and people can come out within a week. If great reviews are all around, I may go ahead and get it. However, if there are lots of kinks found, then I will wait until they are [hopefully] fixed.

However (notice my limitless vocabulary), I do agree with you on the "smart shopper perspective." Hopefully discounted bundle packages will be released.

I have looked up the origami case for the Prime, and it looks great, but I would like to wait for other cases or covers to come out.

Even though the tablet itself may be coming out relatively soon, there are still a lot of factors to consider, as you said. Thanks for helping!

I really hate not having an exact release date! It's driving me crazy! I know patience is key, but once a release date is final, I will feel better, because then I know when reviews will come out, and will know when to start watching for discounted packages, and good cases/covers.

Just wait for the reviews. There will be plenty at launch. Really no need to pre-order. Pre-orders are for sheep in my opinion. I do want this tablet though. Just want to make sure it lives up to the hype.

here's why i plan on waiting a month or so, once the tablet releases, or maybe even before and those who have preordered it start getting theirs in the mail, everyone will be using them to their hearts desire, you say you'll wait a little for reviews and things, and to see what sorts of issues arise, but most of the time issues wont come up right out of the box, it'll take some time and hardcore use to see which things work and dont.

now granted that Asus already had honeycomb on the original transformer i dont see much of a problem with usage, since they already had it optimized, but there may still be some hardware issues, such as cameras not working, units not charging, sd card ports not reading the card, and those things might take sometime to come out, as i said if im spending all that money i do want to be sure its worth it.

and here's my take on our tentative release date, it's rumored for the 8th or 16th of december, which is literally right around the corner. but dont most tech websites and sites that do reviews on laptops and phones and other technological goodies get test units to review ahead of release? with our rumored release date literally a week away shouldnt they have gotten them already? actual reviews should be everywhere, so when i start seeing (and believe me ive been checking every day religiously for the past few months) more and more reviews online i'll believe the rumored dates.

i hope i'm wrong, and those are the actual dates, but in my mind it just doesnt make sense.

I preordered mine through Amazon. Returns are an easy thing with them, so all I have to do is resist the urge to open it until I read some reviews. I've waited this long to get an Android tablet, a few more hours are not going to kill me. Besides, I travel a lot for work, it may even arrive when I'm not home based on the current launch date! If that's what happens, then it will be in its sealed box for days and that will let me read even more reviews online.

I also have the same luck with buying things on launch day but I pre ordered anyways because I had a Xoom and hated it and said to my self I will sell the Xoom and buy the next awesome tablet that comes out, so I couldn't resist and pre ordered it

I anticipate getting the prime, but I was part of the Best Buy Silver Rewards that got the OG for $249 and the dock for $99. I am moving from a Xoom which I liked, but purchased day 1 and took awhile for the tablet to get really good. I am patiently going to wait until probably February for the Prime and use the OG until then.

I say wait until reviews come out and a first update.

Expect reviews to start popping up on 12/1 since ASUS restricted pre-release review authors to wait till then (or so I've heard;) )

I did preorder it today from bestbuy. If there will be any issues with it I'll simply take it back to the nearest bb store for a full refund. just like I did with first Asus TF :) Yes I purchased it earlier this year when it just came out but had problems with touch screen responsiveness and horrible lag with flash videos. I have an ipad 2 which I'm planning to give to my mother after TF2 arrives... The way I look at it... you can never know for sure if you'll get a lemon or not. I still have my Atrix since march and its working perfectly fine while other people have went through multiple replacements... My blackberry bold 9700 worked perfectly for more than a year before I sold it on ebay. so yeah, things happen of course but bestbuy and amazon have wonderful return policy.

Regardless of what item it is, there will be flaws whether its minor or major. There is never a product that is "perfect". So far, I've read nothing but positive about the Transformer Prime.

Remember, this is technology. Whether its a computer, cellphone, laptop, tablet or any electronic, the moment you buy it or wait for it, something new is around the corner.
