Is it just me or is BoomSound not really louder?

Re: Is it just me or is Boomsound not really louder?

There's some logic there, but once you get used to having front facing speakers it's tough to consider a device without them.

I was speaking from a manufacturer's point of view. If it comes down to it, the screen difference between two phones is going to sway a lot more people than the speaker setup.

Plus for a manufacturer, it's still a lot cheaper to just use the defacto little speaker into the back of the unit. May only be $1.00/unit, but when you're selling tens of millions of units, that's a lot of money. They're better off putting a couple more dollars into the ~$75 screen. Yields a much bigger return.

Oh yeah, I get it. And honestly, it was not something I was excited about when I first started reading about this device, but after having front facing speakers it would be tough to go back to two tiny stereo speakers placed on the bottom of a device; or worse, a single speaker on the back.

I disagree, I use the N5(speaker on bottom), One(BoomSound) and the S4(speaker on back) and the S4 speaker is the loudest of the bunch by far. Is it stereo? no but dont really care since I usually have headphones on. The speaker on the back is far more practical than the N5's speaker on the bottom. Game playing on the N5 is frustrating b/c the hand naturally rests in a position the mutes the speaker. Very poor design, but the rest of the phone is slammin.

I went with the One due to everyone bragging about the speakers. So far I'm not overly impressed. It does sound nice, but my S3 is just as loud as long as you don't lay it down flat, lol. I've only had the One a few days so I'll definitely give it more time. I think the advantage of the front facing speakers will show more as I use it. I'm not a gamer so no big deal there. I got it hoping for better sound when playing music while I'm in the shower (with phone on the sink) or when trying to watch videos at work.

Like I said, i just have to give it more time.

I don't think the marketing is about volume per se but about the quality of the audio. Many find the quality to be significantly better than that provided by other phones.

Totally agree. My daughters s3 is almost a loud as my One but the sound quality of the One is superior. That and the fact that the speakers are on the front is a win for me.

My only issue is this... My Og Evo, Evo LTE and now my One have all had blown speakers. My One gets shipped in to HTC on Monday for its free repair.

The sound and placement is great but if they don't stay working my next device won't be an HTC.

I don't think it was ever claimed that the ONE was overly loud, at least not as a selling point. The speakers are clear and a higher quality than those on other devices, but that doesn't mean they'll be the loudest.

If you want loud get a little set of Bluetooth speakers.

Perhaps the moniker BoomSound leads people to believe the volume should be loud?

The loudness in my htc one is loud enough, but the quality of the sound is amazing. I particularly love the front facing speakers, especially if I put the phone on my bed. Loving it so far.

I agree. But at the time of release the amount of fanbois in most phone forums were astronomical this year and the amount of fud spread during this time was even worse.

HTC didn't have to spread rumors or innuendos of the One. They had a fan base (including phone reviewers) doing a great job for them.

I also agree about getting a small bluetooth speaker if you want some real sound.
I just got a Braven brv-1. Plays when wet (or shoot with an ak47, ran over by a hummer). Highly recommend.

Have you tried resetting any EQ or Boomsound options that may have been adjusted?

Hi All
I' new to this forum but old to sound.

I think there are a few technical things being overlooked in this thread.
Beats Audio is an audio compressor that reduces the dynamic range to make certain sounds appear louder than they are by making the softer sounds louder and the louder sounds softer. The result is an audio compression of the dynamic range, it also ads a little bass eq before the compression. I'm not referring to file compression.

I don't know if any of you have noticed a warning pop up now and again when listening to music for a long time. It says "listening at high volumes for prolonged time may result in hearing loss" They are clearly concerned about our health and listening levels.

The speaker placement on the front does two things. It makes the sound a little more direct and keeps the speaker phone away from the noise detection microphone on the back so the conversation is not canceled out by the noise canceling microphone.

I still think most phone speakers sound a bit like a hi-fi tweeter. the HTC, not so much.

I mostly use headphones or I plug it into something. If I'm doing a little casual gaming, like sonic or a car game, or you tube, sounds great.

Did you upgrade your level of Android in that timeframe? I am having the same problem, and I think the sound problem coincided with my upgrade to Android 4.3. I contacted HTC about the problem, but the only thing they suggested ended up wiping my homescreens of all my icons and widgets, and the sound did not get better, so I am wary about trying anything else.

If anyone else has had this problem, and you managed to get the full Boomsound level back on your phone, please let us know how you did it.

I tried all sound options, but I still have this problem. Are there EQ settings somewhere on the One that I don't know about?

Hmmm... now I am replying to my own reply :-)
I tried performing a "wipe cache partition" on my phone, and it seems to have helped with the max sound volume. It's a bit subjective, but it sounds louder and better now.
Give it a try and let me know if you see similar results.

HTC sent me a document describing the steps to wipe the cache partition.

How to WIPE CACHE PARTITION on your phone

*Note: Before starting with the process, please disable the fast-boot in your

phone by going to “Settings, Battery, Fast-boot” uncheck fast-boot.

1. Turn Off the phone

2. Press and hold the power key and the down volume key at the same time

until the following screen shows up

3. Go to “Recovery” using the volume keys to navigate and to select press the

power key.

4. The display will change to update the symbol at the top. Momentarily will

see a triangle with an exclamation mark.

*

*

5. Press and hold the volume up key and then the power key. Something like

the image in the bottom will appear.

6. Navigate to "Wipe cache partition" using the volume buttons

7. Please go to "reboot now". The phone will turn off and on.

I was so unimpressed with the One's sound (only reason I got it was for better sound ) that I sold it on Swappa and ordered a new Nexus 5. Don't get me wrong, I think the One is an awesome device. I just prefer the Nexus stuff....tried the One for the front facing speakers but at work (Toyota factory) they just weren't loud enough to use.

Hope you all are able to find a solution!
