Is it possible VZW had 2nd thoughts about same-day update to 4.1?

As mentioned in other posts.. some are speculating that the recent LTE outage might possibly be the reason the GN is not being released on the 9th as speculated.

Is it possible that VZW wanted all the phones shipped with 4.0.x updated to 4.1 before its release rather than having an update right out of the box?

Just thinkin out loud..... :/

Don't see why. If they have an update ready at launch, you'd be prompted with an update notification as soon as you get a connection to the internet after you activate the phone.

What ragnarokx said, and if phones are already shipped they're not going to open each box to update the phones. That would probably make them un-sellable as new phones too.

And it's not like they can't patch it during setup, before they hand it over to you and turn you loose with it.

I agree with everyone. The update wouldn't have been a problem...

HOWEVER,

with the latest 4G issues...and everyone poised to purchase the GN, imagine the kind of taxing that the network would receive with all those OTA updates going on at similar times or close to each other throughout the day.

Perhaps stability issues with the network raised concern with the OTA update and all the phones to be purchased on that day and throughout the weekend.

Maybe?

Something along those lines is my guess. Could be they stress tested the network yesterday today, only to find it's not working right. Don't know what that means for launch timetable. Hopefully it's a quick fix.

I'd assume they could still download a patch to Android over the store's in-house WiFi and be fine.

If Verizon wanted this phone out, the software "bug" would not be the issue.

I think you may actually have a very valid point there.

It really could be anything and we just don't know.

At that pretty much sums up how Verizon Galaxy Nexus Launch experience has been.
