Is It too late to get a Nexus 6P?

It doesn't matter what Google does or doesn't reveal at their conference. It doesn't matter if a new phone comes out with a better CPU, more RAM, better battery, etc. That doesn't matter. Because it doesn't change the fact that the 6P is still an amazing phone, regardless of what comes after it. The phone works phenomenally well and established the Nexus line as a legitimate competitor among flagship phones. There's nothing that a new phone will do which you absolutely need that the 6P can't also do.

But I don't need to sell you on the phone if you've been looking into it for months. If you want to wait til October or so for a new phone, go for it. I'm sure the next Nexus device(s) will be incredible. But a better phone coming out does not diminish this phone whatsoever, and you shouldn't be afraid to buy something just because something better will come out a little bit down the line.
yeah i agree with you but don't want to feel bummed when i buy the nexus 6p now & google announces a new nexus phone in the I/O event today, which i feel won't happen as the next phones will come end of the year right?

Thanks.

Google has released their new phones in the fall for several years now, and there is zero indication that they are about to change that. Plus, if they were about to trot a new phone out today, we would have seen or heard about it... leaks, renders, etc... no one can sneak out a phone anymore, there are just too many eyes on them. If there was a new Nexus, we would have seen it by now.

This is Google's developer conference, if there is a device announced (which there very well could be), it'll be something new, something to showcase a new technology, like a new Android VR platform... But this will be focused on new development, new features in Android, stuff like Google Spaces, or new apps/tools.

That's right. I don't think Google has ever announced a Nexus phone at I/O. New Nexus phones are almost always released in the fall.

As far as the 6P goes, definitely get one. I mean it can't hurt to wait until the end of the day just to be safe but I can honestly say that this phone is the first phone I have ever owned that doesn't really feel like it's missing anything. It does everything well, and everything just works. I bought mine last year and unless the next Nexus phone is just something truly magical, I can easily see myself being happy with this one for at least another year.

thanks for the info, i read online few days back about the nexus 6p with bumped up specs, it was seen in some benchmark test so people started the rumour for a new nexus phones launching in this event :-/

What I've seen is that it's not a 6P but rather an early prototype of a new Nexus device. Again, the new Nexus phones will be announced in September or October and are usually available for purchase almost immediately (though Google botched the 6P launch with terrible wait times for day 1 buyers), but that's another 4+ months away. If you can wait, it may be worthwhile. If not, buy a 6P now and you will not feel any regret at all, it's a great phone regardless of what comes after it.

I m not waiting till september or october, just wanted to wait till today & see if they announce the rumoured phone which i doubt so will get the nexus 6p :-)

I've seen those 6Pv2 rumors.. not exactly sure where they are coming from though. My suspicion is that it's because of the SD810's reputation from those early dumpster fire phones that didn't implement it properly. I have zero performance complaints about my 6P. Sure, the 810 is 'slower' than the 820, but that's like saying that the 911 Turbo is 'slow' because its slower than the Turbo S.

Considering the 6P now too, now that my 3rd G4 has bootlooped... however, reading some other threads about the LTE issues, etc. is dissuading me from getting the 6P.

What are some other known issues going on with this phone? No 4G/LTE is a deal breaker, as it was the main reason I left Android a several years ago when I had the Thunderbolt (admittedly not a great phone choice in the end) and VZW/HTC refused to resolve the issue.

And now I'm having hardware issues with the LG variant of Android. I don't want to go back to iOS if I don't have to (I only miss iMessage), but all of these issues are making it more likely.

At this point, it wouldn't make sense to have a refreshed 6P four months or so away from releasing the next gen Nexus phone.

True, but I'm in a situation where I need a [reliable] phone. I don't want to stick with another G4 and have it bootloop again on me. I'm in the same boat if I go with iOS too - they'll be releasing something new in the fall I'm sure.

If you feel you will update regardless in the fall then get the 5x if you want a solid temporary alternative if money is paramount.

I don't think I will be looking to upgrade in the fall, as it would be pointless to drop that amount of coin and then do it again for whatever is next so soon after (even the 5X is a pretty penny).

I'm just hesitant now that I've read about some issues with the 6P since one of the updates. And the fact that I can't physically hold one and give it a bit of a test run before I buy it is kind of a drawback too.

I've owned my 6P since October 2015 and have all the updates installed. I don't know what issues you are referring to, but my 6P has zero issues. It is the best mobile phone I've owned and even though it is eight months into its lifecycle, I would replace it with another 6P is I had to.

I would get it, Huawai has hit a homerun with this phone and there is no guarantee that the next one will be better. If they would allow the same company to keep improving on the design then maybe. But if they switch to HTC or LG or some other brand then who knows? . I would wait until B&H photo has it on sale again, you can pick it up cheaper than direct from Google and no sales tax unless you live in NY.

I just got one last month and I love it. I really like the design and the specs are good enough that it'll last a while. Unless the next Nexus wows me, I really don't see myself needing to upgrade any time soon.

I'm hoping for a higher end spec smaller size phone. 6P is too big for me. I like the size of the 5x, but not the processor and camera.

No. It's not too late. I just got mine three weeks ago. Wish I'd gotten one sooner. Keeps up very well with the wife's Samsung S7 Edge. It's a very solid, well performing phone.

If you like what is available now, get it now. Don't wait and hope that the next (HTC) Nexus will be to your liking.
