Is it worth upgrading to the S9 from the S8? Or just a spec bump?

Trying my best not to revert to being a spec junkie..... but the bump in addition to the dual camera on the + and fingerprint sensor in the correct place....... might be worth it.

My take: Of course the camera is great. The slow-mo is dark and awkward so far. Perhaps I'll discover the secret. My favorite thing so far is the facial recognition. The iris scan on the S8 is hit and miss. This greatly decreases the pain point of unlocking. Is it worth paying almost a grand to upgrade from the 8? For me yes. I'm a power user. For most no. I had the S8, added a line, so I got the S9. While it is not a big change, plenty of incremental changes are noticeable. It is a bit wider and shorter, still getting used to the finger print scanner placement, I was fine with the other way, I will be fine with this too. Camera in low light is awesome. AR emoji, who really cares? Intelligent scan is nice. Outside of that, it is snappy and fluid, but brand new! Oh, most noticeable is the sound improvement with the dual speakers, much better! If you have cash to burn, buy it, its the best phone out in my opinion (camera, waterproof, storage, headphone jack), but the S8 is still a fantastic phone.

If you have an S8 an upgrade isn't really necessary. Save yourself a few hundred bucks. Anything below an S8 is worth an upgrade.

I am returning my S9. There a number of changes, mainly on new Samsung text app ie; no more sliding on text page to call. Must go to Phone, hit phone icon on top, phone number shows at bottom and THEN press to call. No more "Discard" in upper menu to delete whatever mistakes/changes you're making in text. Must HOLD return button now to start over. NO missed calls badge, etc.

Can't understand the logic behind all this but I'm done. Not about the money. It's about getting used to something that gets changed from day-day usage.

My bad: On S9 text page, must go to top of page to phone icon, hit that, see number at bottom, then press button to call... too many steps now vs just sliding to the right to call the person on my S8.

I have Galaxy Forever on Sprint so it was a no-brainer for me to upgrade even though I wasn't expecting much of a difference. I want from a Galaxy S8 to a S9 Plus and I have been pleasantly surprised by the huge user-experience difference. as others have said, the iris scanner / face reader is in a noticeable upgrade in addition to the other obvious things like that camera and the additional RAM and larger battery. I haven't had my phone long enough to really talk about the battery yet. However the screen looks amazing and my husband who has the S8 Plus also noticed a big difference in the S9 plus screen over his phone's.

Your phone has direct dial. So if you in a message or contact page just place the phone to your ear and it dials automatically. It's even easier than what you were doing.

And I get missed call notification. Not sure why your not.

New is always better but I feel it’s actually better to jump with alternate model like S7 to S9 or probably go for the next one if your on S8 .. two benefits ... first you use up ur previous phone long enough and secondly you get new features instead of just refinements in the new one
