I don't proclaim to know the answer to this question but I find it an interesting question to think about right now. What we can say about the new G is it's becoming more of a different Moto offering not a lesser offering.

What the Moto X taught us is that you don't need to have a premium screen or premium CPU to get a premium experience. So with that lesson in mind how should we think of the G now?

Simple answer: no.

Long answer: it depends on what you're looking for. Are you just after a solid device that works well as a phone? Then probably, since it's a lot cheaper than the X. But if you're comparing features, specs, and capabilities, then no. The G has no LTE (as of now), lesser resolution (although not bad), and a lower-tier processor. It's not a flagship.

It's a valid question at this point, and it really depends on what you are looking for in a phone. It baffles me that some of the features that people really want, they tossed over to the "lesser" Moto G, and neglected to put it on the X. Why put Stereo speakers on the inferior phone? Why give it an SD card slot when so many people want it? (Motorola says their "research" indicates that people are more interested in uploading to the Cloud rather than use SD cards. I think Motorola's "research is severely f--ked up. They must have 3rd graders compiling their stats.)

At the same time though, the G doesn't have the "Moto Voice" feature which is my favorite feature. So, I'd still have to say the X is the superior phone. But it really shouldn't even be a debate, yet it is.

There are some advantages with the Moto G, such as a lower powered processor so it doesn't get as hot as the Moto X. It also have very long battery life, 5+ hours. And it have microSD slot. But on the other hand the Moto X have much more features. Simple answer is no.
