hello,

I have an lg optimus v vm670 that works fine. it has been rooted, has cyanogen custom recovery installed, and harmonia custom rom, I believe version 9, but not positive.
it would be very useful if I could play videos from the sdcard, but I want to make sure it's possible. one issue I considered is the ram. is there enough?

before I spend alot of time encoding on a trial-and-error basis with handbrake, I thought it would be wise to ask to advice here. anyone with expertise, experience, and knowledge, please give me your thoughts.
am I just wasting my time considering doing this?
thanks.

If there's enough RAM to play a video, there's enough RAM to play a video. Where the video is stored has nothing to do with RAM. However, considering that the phone is 5 years old, it probably can't play anything larger than a 320X200.

The only way to make sure is to find a small video and try it. If it'll play a 2 minute video, it'll play a 2 hour video.

I'm not an expert in video codes, but I have been able to play most of the video files I've wanted to play using MXPlayer, for what it's worth.

hello Rukbat,

the resolution for the vm670 is 480x320, so I would hope to achieve that. I have watched many videos from youtube, but they are prepared by youtube for the device. those videos play good, so I think ram is not a problem. your suggestion sounds logical.
thanks

hello jamoosh,

yep. I have mxplayer. it plays the videos that I create with the camcorder nicely (m4v), but doesn't play the ones I copy from the pc (mp4). I use 'simple' player for that, but there are both sound and video problems.
thanks

It sounds like you've found a working solution for playing your video files. I'll have to check out simple player. Thanks for the information.
