Is preferred care worth it? (assume you have the credit card 2x warranty)

I knee-jerk reaction added the $129 preferred care package as I feverishly threw together my order. Now, I see it has a $99 deductible and all of that expert and priority support is pretty useless to me as an advanced user. I have yet to seriously damage a phone.

I do have that little concern that there may be a flaw in the phone but Google treats first year replacements the same for all, right?

Are you getting it? Pros? Cons?

Right now, I am leaning toward canceling it. Although, I think I have to call Google to do it. I don't want to lose my place in line.

EDIT: My Visa purchase protection for damage only covers up to $500 per incident.

Not paying a red cent for care. Spend that money on good case & screen protector

I feel that having both purchase protection from my credit card and Google 's warranty is sufficient. I broke my 6P a few months after I got it and my card have me a full refund. My bro had some issues with his first Pixel and Google had no problems sending him a new one.

Generally I take good care of my phone so I typically don't get any extra coverage.

I would have got it, but was trying to buy the phone and check out as fast as I could, that I didn't notice it.

I got it too. Never bought through Google before, so this will be new for me.

Here is the kicker for me, and this is based off of the original Pixel and how Google would handle accidental damage.

For example, if you broke the screen:

-and had the extra warranty, $99 gets you a replacement and you deal with Google directly

-if you did not have the extra warranty, Google would not even repair the phone, they would refer you to a third party service to repair it, I think they were called I-Fix-It(sorry, can’t remember their exact name). Now Google had a deal with them for a fixed price, but it was all third party and I am not sure what you would do if they did not have a store close to you.

Just depends on how worried you are about breaking that screen. Also, I prefer dealing with Google as their customer service is amazing.

*this may have changed with the Pixel 2, but that was my experience with a Pixel that I purchased through Verizon(actually might be bc it was purchased through Verizon).

If you really want it you probably still buy could.

I am going to chat/call Google later about this as I did not order it either with my XL. I am still debating the $129 through Google or $79 through Upsie. The $50 will not make or break me - just trying to figure out if having it through Google would be the best.

Not that I have ever used protection for a phone before, but at $850 it will give me peace of mind with little kids running around the house!

Last year I went through this. Turns out you couldn't order it after the fact. I did a pre-order and wanted to add it. They told me the only way was to cancel my order and re-order. It may have changed this year but I doubt it.

Well if that is the case then Upsie it is again for me.

I never gamble that bad things will happen. So never (since 1992) have I broken a phone that I couldn't fix myself(which happened with the Galaxy Nexus)..So that's worked for me. I'm guessing I have saved 5k not buying extra warranties on things like refrigerator's phones , appliances etc. that have never failed. Even more if you count in vehicles...I also use a thin cruzerlite case with every phone...I drop them plenty, but they have never broke.

I never get insurance... That said this time I considered it just for the hell of it. I bought without but I beleive I have a few days to add once I receive the phone.. but I could be wrong.

Still unsure if it is needed for me.

I am in your exact, same, boat.
Feverishly ordered.
Saw $99 deductible after the fact.
Expert/Priority useless.
Haven't damaged a phone.
Leaning towards cancelling.

But I didn't think about my credit cards and what the cover.

Ok my wife breaks phones like they are made from Toilet Paper. So I got insurance on her Nexus 6P, and after 8.0 issues creeped on her phone I called Google and since it was still under warranty they said we are sending her a Pixel XL. That one incident makes it worth it in my opinion. So yes I always get insurance. What is 129 dollars when you are buying a 900 dollar phone

Probably not. After buying AppleCare+ on my iPhone SE, I never had a use for it and it will be done next spring. There was another warranty I bought for a previous phone and that was just useless.

If I do get the phone I will probably get the protection plan. especially with water resistance it is getting harder and harder to repair devices yourself. there is no doubt that the new 18 by 9 display is expensive. if I crack the screen how much am I really saving doing it myself?

I think in the long run you always come out ahead not buying insurance. I had a claim once because I ended up in the water after my boat capsized. I have never damaged a phone otherwise. Water is actually not as much an issue these days and if the screen breaks it's probably less than the cost of insurance and deductables.
If you're accident prone buy all means, get it.
