Is preferred care worth it? (assume you have the credit card 2x warranty)

I haven't looked into it lately, but how come nobody has mentioned SquareTrade?

Google Preferred Care

Anyone getting this?

Anyone order the phone and not get the protection because you forgot to? I was in such a hurry I forgot to click on it. Now if I cancel and reorder I have to wait a long period to receive the phone. I contacted Google Support through my Pixel and they said I couldn't go back and add it, the protection must be added at the time of purchase. I thought about calling and speaking to someone, but I don't know. Seems like it could be added until the phone ships at the very least. May go with third party or no insurance.

Right now, I am leaning toward canceling it. Although, I think I have to call Google to do it. I don't want to lose my place in line.

From Google's Preferred Care FAQ:
"If I need to cancel my protection, who do I contact?

You can cancel your optional coverage at any time by contacting Google Support at 1-855-836-3987. If you cancel within the first 30 days the contract is void and you will receive a full refund. In the event you cancel after 30 days we will refund to you the unearned prorated price, less any claims paid up to the date of the cancellation."

This way you won't have to cancel the entire order to remove the preferred care.

I ended up getting it. Since I financed it anyway, it added very little to the monthly amounts anyway. $5 per month for piece of mind is good by me. Better than the off chance I have to pay several hundred (or more for some new phone) all at once unexpectedly.

I can easily see the other side though too. I am very very careful with my phones and have never cracked one. Including water resistance in this one also makes it slightly less likely to need repair. So I can easily understand those who do not need it, as well as those like me who want it anyway ...

I have opted for the Google device protection since the Nexus 6P. It is a little pricy, but you can't beat the service if you do have an accident and need a repair/replacement.

Re: Google Preferred Care

I'm in the same boat and trying to decide. i think since it hasn't even shipped yet, they should let us add it.

It's a toss up.... Not sure why it can't be added because everyone else let's you add insurance, just not Google coverage.

Oh wow, I think our wives must be from the same tribe. My wife went through two Moto Z screens, and has already gone through two screen protectors on her new S8. I did Upsie, and they've been great. Fixed the Moto Z twice. I got it for my Pixel XL as well, but not had to use it yet. Will probably do the same for my Pixel 2 XL.

So we can cancel 30 days After purchase and get full refund but if you don't add it at time of purchase your SOL. *smh* stupid policy.

THANKS! I missed this. Much appreciated.

Without nexus care, I never would have gotten my free upgrade to the pixel xl. I've worked with extended warranties on both sides of the fence and always felt way worth it.

I knee-jerk reaction added the $129 preferred care package as I feverishly threw together my order. Now, I see it has a $99 deductible and all of that expert and priority support is pretty useless to me as an advanced user. I have yet to seriously damage a phone.

I do have that little concern that there may be a flaw in the phone but Google treats first year replacements the same for all, right?

Are you getting it? Pros? Cons?

EDIT: My Visa purchase protection for damage only covers up to $500 per incident.

Not really worth it. I tried it for this year's pixel, and they offer nothing special. And pixel 2 like pixel is going to be also durable. (Hope).

So, if the protection was purchased for last year's Pixel, and it's being traded in for this year's, can we call to cancel last year's and get half the money back? I mean, it's a 2 year coverage and I've had my XL since January.

I purchased it for the Nexus 6P when it was first released 2 yrs ago. I'm glad I did. In the past 2 months my battery was becoming a POS. It wouldn't hold a charge for longer than 1 hour. I opened a claim on it & they replaced it with a brand new Pixel XL. This was the first time that I've purchased insurance on a phone & glad I did. I wouldn't blink an eye getting it again even though the current price of the insurance & deductible is higher than it was with the Nexus 6P.

I got it. Remember that the credit card only extends the warranty, which only covers manufacturer defects, and not accidental damage. Lots of people say that accidents won't happen because they're always "careful," but this is life, and you-know-what happens. For a $1000 phone, I'm not running the risk of paying a lot for repair or replacement if something happens.

Ok my wife breaks phones like they are made from Toilet Paper. So I got insurance on her Nexus 6P, and after 8.0 issues creeped on her phone I called Google and since it was still under warranty they said we are sending her a Pixel XL. That one incident makes it worth it in my opinion. So yes I always get insurance. What is 129 dollars when you are buying a 900 dollar phone

Got my dad a Nexus 6P back in Nov 2015. No insurance on the phone and no warranty either. Called Google early this week for issues with battery and phone over heating. They shipped a brand new Pixel XL!

It's really up to each user how much risk/value the plan is. For me, who is financing it ($5/month or so at the Google Store) it's a no-brainer. I'd much rather not take the risk of having to pay hundreds if I crack my screen or otherwise have issues down the road for that price.

OTOH, if I had to pay to pay for the protection all at once, that might make the choice a bit harder, along with the $99 deductible. For me it was an easy choice, but I can totally understand those who don't need it ..
