Is Sprint not pushing the Photon 4g?

Or how about this for a good idea. Market the Photon and the Photon Professional. One unlocked for non-business people, and footers, and the other for professionals. Same exact phone, slightly different software.

The 3D sounds like a silly gimmick to me, and is one of the reasons I am less interested in the EVO 3D. That might be shortsighted of me, as I assume you can ignore the 3D. But I feel like I would be paying for some fancy option that I have no interest in.

That's because it is a silly gimmick. Even though you can ignore it, I refuse to buy something that will fuel something I don't particularly like. 3d is not ready. Most people don't really like it. 3d movies show extremely slow sales, unless its a blockbuster movie. 3d tvs don't sell. I don't know a single person interested in 3d. That includes my techie friends and tech illiterate friends. The only people interested in 3d are little kids who don't know any better

Yes, you can ignore it for the most part. You're not really paying extra for it, since the phone would likely cost the same without the 3D (on-contract, at least). I've played with it a fair amount and I do like the phone in general, but the screen seems slightly off to me even in 2D. That's my major hesitation in picking one up.

Every phone has a gimmick.

The Palm Pre was the creepy vampire girl phone. The EVO is 3D. The Phonon is the business worldphone.

The EVO 3D and the Sensation are almost identical. The 3D has more RAM and 3D. Both sell for $200 so there is no extra price for the 3D.

Specs are very comparible for the EVO 3D and Photon but Motorla says the Photon is a "business-ready world phone"

That is what the Point of Sale Advertising will say as well.

If you are a "business pro" or a "globetrotter", consider the Photon.

But what about consumers who don't own a company or fly around the world?

Still nothing will ever be as bad as the Palm Pre creepy vampire girl marketing campaign.

I actually am a little bit of a globe trotter. I used an old unlocked Treo in Germany earlier this month, and wonder if I could pick up this phone in time to use it for my next trip in early August. If I didn't want a keyboard, I would be sold. Well, of course, I also like to tinker, so there's some appeal to the Nexus. Alas, nothing with a good keyboard looks terribly appealing in other ways. I may just stick with my laggy old Pre for a while longer.

For me, "a little while longer" is this Sunday.

Goodbye keyboard, toushstones, webOS. Hello, everything else.

Sniff, sniff. Bring on the Photon.

Until next year when Sprint picks up the Pre4. ;-)

Thats not it at all.
You are talking about 2 different markets.
The Photon and the Xprt are being sold as business phones and targeted to the business market.
Motorola is becoming the business phone provider for Sprint

The 3D phone is targeted to the entertainment market

Now as far as not marketing it.
The target audience has even been given the opportunity to get the phone early

I tend to agree with marketing of the two phones. The e3d is targeted towards the much younger crowd, say under 25 while the photon is more towards the 25-30 range. That's just my opinion.

These sound about right. The Motorola Photon is less gimmicky than the 3D I think.

I dont think you will see Sprint pushing this phone like they are pushing the 3D.

This phone i think will be marketed towards the business person.

i hope they keep on not pushing the photon... better chance for me to get one on drop day, then!

Carriers only advertise phones that have something that is kinda obnoxious. Most recently ATT with the status and the facebook button.

I was in my local Sprint store on Monday and noticed one of their four large window banners was for the Photon (two others were for the Evo 3D and I don't recall what the fourth was). So at least in store I'm seeing some advertising ahead of release.

LOL.......I can see the commercials now, "Come buy our most obnoxious phone ever!!"
