The 3D sounds like a silly gimmick to me, and is one of the reasons I am less interested in the EVO 3D. That might be shortsighted of me, as I assume you can ignore the 3D. But I feel like I would be paying for some fancy option that I have no interest in.

The EVO 3D and the Sensation are almost identical. The 3D has more RAM and 3D. Both sell for $200 so their is no extra price for the 3D.
Specs are very comparible for the EVO 3D and Photon but Motorla says the Photon is a "business-ready world phone"
That is what the Point of Sale Advertising will say as well.
If you are a "business pro" or a "globetrotter", consider the Photon.
But what about consumers who don't own a company or fly around the world?
Still nothing will ever be as bad as the Palm Pre creepy vampire girl marketing campaign.
I actually am a little bit of a globe trotter. I used an old unlocked Treo in Germany earlier this month, and wonder if I could pick up this phone in time to use it for my next trip in early August. If I didn't want a keyboard, I would be sold. Well, of course, I also like to tinker, so there's some appeal to the Nexus. Alas, nothing with a good keyboard looks terribly appealing in other ways. I may just stick with my laggy old Pre for a while longer.
Thats not it at all.
You are talking about 2 different markets.
The Photon and the Xprt are being sold as business phones and targeted to the business market.
Motorola is becoming the business phone provider for Sprint
The 3D phone is targeted to the entertainment market
Now as far as not marketing it.
The target audience has even been given the opportunity to get the phone early
I tend to agree with marketing of the two phones. The e3d is targeted towards the much younger crowd, say under 25 while the photon is more towards the 25-30 range. That's just my opinion.
i hope they keep on not pushing the photon... better chance for me to get one on drop day, then!
Carriers only advertise phones that have something that is kinda obnoxious. Most recently ATT with the status and the facebook button.
