Is the camera any better?

This still does not solve the issue of being concerned about the shot being gone after messing with the settings in Pro mode. It's not as practical for kids/animals, which is commonly why many of us want cameras to do a better job with moving objects indoors.
I never made any claims that it solved your concerns. The poster I was responding to asked for a recommendation for a starting point for shutter speeds outdoors for moving objects. Incidentally there is no smartphone that gets every moving shot perfect, not even the Pixel. Automode can't cover every single circumstance where moving shots are concerned. Granted that some have a better happy medium but the rate of movement and available light are mitigating factors that can't always be addressed by one setting. Even expensive cameras can't cover everything with one auto setting.

Seems to be hit or miss. I just tested indoors and they are somewhat similar, Pixel 4 again did a better job with white balancing and colors but details are the same. In 64mp Samsung looks alot sharper

I made a post about my Note 10 to S20 impressions and have an example of what I'm seeing output of the 64mp camera compared to the Note.

Wondering if I have something wrong with my S20 after hearing about how sharp everyone is saying the 64mp camera is.

Keep in mind that when your photos are uploaded here they lose most of their resolution so it's really hard to compare

Yes, I realize the upload affects the quality but I think it's still pretty evident there's much less detail between the Note and S20 64mp pic. It also seems pretty close to what I'm seeing on my PC.

Absolutely

I'm personally not impressed with this camera. Coming from the OnePlus 7T with a great gcam port , I'm finding it hard to justify the cost here on the Ultra.

Its all software issues with this camera. If u download the google camera apk on the ultra u do see a big difference. Especially when taking pics of people and moving objects. so it's def not a hardware issue. Even the autofocus is better.

Do you need to root the phone? Does it screw up the samsung software at all? Where can you get one that for sure works with the Ultra? Does it become the default camera app?

Sorry for the questions, i'm not used to installing apk's

No install it like a regular app. You'll still have the Samsung camera app also on the phone also. This is just a separate app. It doesn't work with all the ultra cameras though.

Its a trusted source too. They've been around since the original droid. Making roms and stuff.

My apologies, I missed that part of his post. That's my mistake.

To your second point though, clearly we know no phone camera is going to be perfect in shots with any kind of movement, particularly indoors. However, in comparison to others it does seem that Samsung does a worse job. And as many have expressed here, that can add to quite a bit of frustration for those of us with young kids.

Regardless of what they want to call it, a mode that helped deal with those kind of situations would mitigate some of that concern if the auto mode isn't going to improve.

You get almost zero shutter lag on Pixels because of the software. Remember, Pixel's camera software is taking hundreds of photos the moment you open the app. Pressing the shutter button just tells the camera when to stop, and merge all the best images in the last millisecond to one great picture. Other phone apps operate like a standard camera, and start that process after you press the shutter button.

I assume Google has all the patents on this technology because I don't believe any other phone does this, when its a far superior way to capture low light and fast moving photos.

Shutter lag is simply the delay between triggering the shutter and when the photo is captured and nothing else.

Supra seems to be saying that the Pixel is not waiting for you to press anything to start taking the picture. He is saying that it starts capturing as soon as the camera app is opened, and that it just uses the button press to know which of the images to choose from and process. That's why the Pixel has less lag. I never heard this before, and don't know if it's true - just explaining his post.

iOS does the same thing too now. I believe it only works on the 11 series though.

What I'm trying to point out is that shutter lag isn't usually a big amount of time between pressing the button and shutter operation, at least not on digital. Samsung's issue is more of a slow shutter speed in auto than it is shutter lag.

I loved when he said he was surprised by Samsung. Glad they did a blind test because it shows that Samsung did a great job with hardware regardless of how many try to say otherwise. It also goes to show that image interpretation is opinion base. There is no prefect camera and this video showed that. Don't regret my ultra one bit and can't wait to see the enchantments that come.

Got it.

Dead on my man. This video was the best I've seen in terms of the strengths and weaknesses of each camera. The strengths of the Samsung is what I suspected, and made it easier to form my decision.
