Is the Droid THAT far behind the N1 and Incredible?

Right now, I have the Droid Eris. It's a cool phone and all but I just want something that's faster, with a bigger screen. Now, my 30-day trial ends in 5 days. So I'll have to switch phones in 5 days. Now, you have the N1 and Incredible coming out sometime down the line. I was really hoping that one of the phones would be out by the 9th of April. It doesn't look that's going to happen. So, I'm going to get the Droid. I love the specs and look of the Droid. But at the sametime, I just want to know...is the Droid really THAT far behind the N1 and Incredible? Do you think it can still hold it's own against the N1 and Incredible, especially after the 2.1 update? Do you think it's more of a win/win situation, where no matter which one you get...you'll still have an awesome phone?

And also, how are the live wallpapers on the Droid?

if you dont give a crap about a physical keyboard (which if you have the eris, probably not), you might want to wait and see a bit if the nexus will finally make its way to the big V. but the droid is a great phone, i love it, and it really isnt that far behind the others. well, the N1 anyway; i havent heard a ton about the incredible personally

and the live wallpapers are fine on droid

To me no I see the Droid as the n1 little brother. It's fast stable and when rooted it can just about go toe for toe with it. But between stock versions their is a speed difference. Not major but noticable. But as far as the incredible who knows I can bet it will take better pics. Look better to some and the OS looks better

Instead of going for the latest and greatest smartphone, just purchase one that you like and will be content with until you're due for upgrade.

I bought my Droid two months ago and love it. New devices will always release so if you keep looking for the latest/greatest, you'll end up losing tons of money and regretting it later one. I learned this lesson after buying a freaking Sidekick and then selling it to get a BB a month later.:(

No regrets here. One thing that is often over looked is the radio reception a device gets. The Droid is by far the best in this area. I do not know how it competes against the other devices mentioned, but compared to the Eris and even the blackberries i had, Droid works best where I'm at. It is solid reliable and very flexible. Cheers!

A rooted droid can go faster than a stock n1 but once you oc the n1 it most likely can go faster than what the droid can oc to.

I agree with a lot of sentiments in this thread. Although the Droid is not the fastest phone out there anymore, I have yet to find anything more reliable, sturdy, or fun to use and work with every day. I have owned blackberries, Palms, etc, and I love this the most.

I believe it is the best phone that Verizon has right now, and although it will be eclipsed, I would go with this phone. It is very fast when rooted, and VERY easy to root. Also, because it has such a large user pool, many cracks, widgets, themes are available for it that are not available anywhere else.

Go with the Droid. If you are not turned off by the size (I personally like the heft and feel, but some people don't like a big phone), then you will love it.

Not IMO but many people apparently think that newer means absolutely better. If you're in that camp, I don't see how you'd decide on anything with newer devices constantly in development.

That could be related to it making the top 10 list for external radiation for a cell phone. But, I agree, great reception.

I just got my droid 2 days ago. So far i love it. its much faster than my crackberry 8330 was. and android is an absolute dream compared to blackberry OS.

Although, i do like the looks of this Nexus One. and i have about 28 days to feel my way around the droid, if the Nexus One comes out in the next month for Verizon, i will have to go check it out.

OP: Apparently the Incredible is coming out in the next few days on VZW. I would hold onto that Eris until the last possible moment. Then again, the Incredible might not be for you. The Droid is a great phone, that's for sure.

the droid is great but if you have the chance to wait it our for the incredible and you like sense do it. the phone should be very nice. but i cant sleep on my droid its a great phone

Good Point.

So, I went on and got the Moto Droid today. I'll admit...I'm simply in love with this phone. The phone is simply phenomenal. And the live wallpapers are awesome :D And the phone came with the 2.1 update. I'll admit that I stilll wouldn't mind the Incredible (when it makes its debut), but at the sametime...I don't want to give my Droid up. lol

i honestly noticed no speed difference between my Stock Droid (2.0.1 at the time) and my friends Stock Nexus One...maybe a second or so...nothing worth dropping 500+ bucks on

Glad you got the DROID. It is really a great phone, loved it and wouldn't put it down when I got it.
Great sturdy physical build to it, too. The OS ontop of that makes the phone incredible.
Gotta love the DROID!

P.S.
Welcome to the Moto DROID community ;) Need any help, feel free to ask. We're all friendly and helpful here!

Just wondering, Do you have the option of turning in your phone within the 30 days for a refund and then wait the extra 2 weeks for the new phones to drop?

Good advice. The Droid's the best phone I've had in terms of smart phones. I started out with a PPC, went to BlackBerry, returned a Palm device ... it's a great phone. I love the OS.
dman91 is right ... if you're just trying to keep up with the latest and greatest you're going to get lost. There's a hot new phone every six months. Best thing you can do is get the phone that works for you and do that new every two thing if you're with VZ. I bought my Droid in March and started to wonder if I made a mistake because there were rumors about the N1, Incredible -- and the iPhone. That 30 days passed and I haven't really thought much about it.
