Is the Galaxy Note too big?

The size of the Galaxy Note is PERFECT... for someone.

That's the whole beauty of Android... multiple vendors all competing. They can't all make the same tired design. They must think outside the box to differentiate their products. This leads to devices like the Note.

Would Apple make something like this? Maybe not. But an Android vendor definitely would... they did! And what a wonderful thing. That percentage of the population who wanted larger than 4 and smaller than 7... who 5 inches is perfect for... gets exactly what they want/need.

Android and competition is awesome! There is a phone EXACTLY right for just about everyone.

If I could only have one device I'd get a Note. But I like having a 7" tablet and a 4.3" phone. The nice thing is there is a choice for everyone.

for me galaxy note is one hell of a smartphone. i love it. my friend has it and i think its amazing. even for the female user can put it in their bags. you don't have to put it in your jeans all the time. i think almost all the smartphones now a days have bigger screen. note is just so easy to use and browse and its really easy and comfortable to read a book there. overall i love it.

This is purely a matter of preference. If you like bigger screens with great capabilities, the Note is perfect. If you don't, it's not. I prefer big screens, so I'm waiting for this jewel to come to Sprint. If Sprint doesn't get this phone, then I have a decision to make; to stay or not to stay. The EVO LTE and the Sammy G III (I'm sure Sprint will have it in whatever variation) are my choices...if I stay. However, an exit from Sprint is a last-gasp option that I'm also (sadly) considering. Anyway, my advice is to hold the Note in your hands and demo it before eliminating it from consideration. IMHO

I have an imported Galaxy Tab 7.7 that can be used as a phone, and though I got this one instead of the wifi only version to have the option, I really rather use it as a tablet to complement my phone instead of replace it. Besides, my phone is a WP7 HTC Titan; I have the best of both worlds.

I've checked out the note in stores a few times and while it sounded large reading about it online it really isn't when you get ahold of it. Great to have but not always something you can fit into your lifestyle unless you want to rock 2 phones. If I had a job without much traveling around the note would be awsome....otherwise there's plenty of "large" screen phones to choose from

My option would be for a 4.0" or smaller Android ICS device. And there is in fact nil in that category to opt from. I don't opt the bigger phones, or the people that similar to them, but I do hate the tendency of bigger=better.

I don't think there will be anymore high end Android devices that are that small anymore. That's unfortunate because I also like a smaller device.

4.3" seems to be the average size for a phone now.

And still, the newer Nexus has a 4.7" and the SGS III has a 4.8" screen.

I believe that by some posters saying that the Note is a niche device are wrong, because that niche is expanding......rapidly.

All new Android phones with top notch hardware will fit into the 4.5" to 5.3" range soon, as the public's need for media consumption grows even more. It is so much easier to read a book, watch a video, share pictures and play games on larger screens.

Apple has a nice retina display screen on their iPhone, but you still have to put the phone right in front of your face to see small objects in pictures, or to watch videos that are shot at a distance. If people didn't want bigger screens to consume media, companies just wouldn't make them.

So here is to a mold breaking device like the Note and its niche market that have seen fit to purchase enough units to allow for a Note 2 this October.

I think it's too big for me personally as an every day portable phone. I read Samsung will make the Note 2 narrower which might make a difference but the Note 1 is just too wide to use and carry comfortably as a phone.

4.65 and even 4.8 is the perfect size for someone who wants a large screen phone. I'd rather have my phone at this size and then have a 7 inch tablet for the occasional larger screen portable device.

That's what I thought too, until I got one. Now I am questioning my need for this 7" tablet at all.

Well, let's see. The Note is getting bigger with speculation that the screen will go to 5.5" on the Note 2 for a full 1080p resolution. I am sure they will just make the screen longer as another poster mentioned ala the Galaxy SIII. This could make the device a little more pallatable for new users.

In other news, Apple is trying to introduce a smaller iPad. Hmmm.

One gets bigger and the other gets smaller, who is going to hit the magic size first? I guess that depends on the consumers voting with their pocketbooks.

For the record... just returned my Note. Having been switching back and forth between my Galaxy Tab 2 7" tablet and the Note... just like using the tablet better. Seems as if the Note was the one that's not necessary for me.

Here's the worst part which may be heresy on this forum: I prefer my 4.3" Windows Phone for a phone, instead of the note. WP is just a better OS for a phone, for me. I like Android ICS on the tablet, but not as a phone. Too much just gets in the way.
