Is the HTC 10 priced too high?

Re: Priced too high?

Well I just ordered mine >>>>>>>> $599 - Thank You HTC!!!

I am done with paying stupid prices for a cell phone that is only new for 9 months I don't know how you guys afford it but I can think of a of things I can do rather than waste money like that I have the lg G4 and will wait until next year when I can get the G5 for half the price.

we do it the same way you got the G4 bought it, and if folk are smart about it most of us sell the current phone to cover the newer phone. We all have things we would spend money on just like you can find something else someone could say the same about what you would choose to spend that same 599.00 on.

Re: Priced too high?

You get what you pay for when it comes to phones and options... HTC is trying to make a comeback after the 9 launch. The galaxy and LG series want to show that consumers are willing to pay for their products. Huawei released the 6P and isn't known as well.here in the states. But the 6P is a solid phone. I am excited to see what HTC does. The 10 looks like a Samsung clone with the HTC hardware and backing. I'm excited to see what they do- never been a fan of LG- the 5 is just like owning a Skylanders game... you have to purchase the good accessories to get further in the game... it's a gimmick.

Re: Priced too high?

It's a flagship. It's priced like a flagship. It's competition is Samsung and iPhone. It's the same ballpark as the M8 and the M9 were. If it's as good as it seems, then they will be fine sales wise, or at least on the road to reputation recovery. I think pricing closer to a mid range phone devalues the brand.

Re: Priced too high?

Well it's a flagship phone so it makes sense that it's priced comparably to other flagships.

I guess we'll let the market decide whether it's too much or not. If it's not selling well, I'm sure HTC would drop the price of it.

Maybe the people in the top 1% can afford to pay for an unlocked phone, everyone else probably leases

Re: Priced too high?

I think $599 or $649 would be more palatable, since this is going up squarely against the GS7 in terms of price point, and given that HTC doesn't have the same brand power and marketing muscle as Samsung, it would be interesting to see how the 10 fares.

That said, the $100 off promo code does help quite a bit, so to me, it's not a huge deal right now.

I still think it could be priced a little lower just to make it more appealing (as HTC needs to sell as many of these as possible), but ultimately, if HTC wants to sell these at $699, it needs adequate marketing to convince consumers that it's worth the same price as the GS7.

I agree. $649.99 at most for the 32GB model.

I think what HTC has created here with the HTC 10 is a phone for HTC fans. With the high-end being so good right now, it's going to be a tough sell to non-tech folks or folks that aren't as "hardcore" as us here on forums and sites like this.

I'm thinking the same way.

This phone is going to appeal mainly to HTC fans and Android geeks who follow sites like Android Central.

The issue is selling the phone to non-techies and the average consumer. I think it's been made clear that HTC just doesn't have the brand power and marketing muscle to compete directly with Samsung, so the HTC 10 definitely needs strong marketing in order to convince potential customers why and how the 10 is worth GS7-money if HTC is adamant at selling it at $700. I still think $650 would be more ideal, but if that's how HTC wants to roll, then it needs to market it effectively.

They've got a great phone. Now it's time to market it effectively so that it sells.

Priced too high?

Verizon is planning to sell it so lots of consumers who have no clue about phones will walk into stores and even buy a brick if the rep tells them it's good. I'm assuming they will at least get some percent of sales like this from the largest carrier in the US. It will never sell like the S7 or iPhone but if it's a good phone, it will pick up some steam and might do reasonable well financially to just let HTC hang around a bit longer.

How would you measure the HTC 10's success?

It's priced way too high. Sure, it looks like a nice phone, but HTC isn't doing so well and pricing the phone at $700 isn't going to win them any new customers. If I was an average customer out to buy a phone, I'd get a Samsung device for that price just for the brand recognition alone.

Re: Priced too high?

More and more people are buying unlocked and outright.

For the person looking at the phones like the Nexus 6P, Moto X Pure Edition, and Nexus 5X, IMO this HTC 10's price is quite ridiculous.

At $699.99, this is also more expensive than the unlocked 32GB LG G5 ($649.99).

Ridiculous? You cannot compare the HTC 10 with the G5 or the Nexus 5X. They are completely different phones. I also do not think that 50$ is such a big difference, considering someone is prepared to go above 500$ for a phone. The HTC10 is a premium phone and it has to be priced accordingly. The argument that HTC should price it much lower so that it attracts more people is weak. HTC does not have the cash to start losing more money by selling the HTC10.
The HTC10 is on a level with the iPhone 6S (but priced a bit lower). It is on a level with the S7. It has at least the same quality as these phones, so why price it lower?
I own a Nexus 6P and I had many HTC devices before. There is a difference in quality between HTC devices and the rest of the world (excluding the iPhone).

@Retinella are you referrencing Canadian pricing because in the US the phone is $699 with a $100 off promo thats $599 again not sure where all of this complaining about cost comes in for what you are getting the price is right.

And to @ab304945 really the top 1% is all that can afford to pay $599 that is not true folks spend more on that with phones and service through the year. I can only speak for the US A top 1% price is something like getting a Bugatti

Good point, I guess that's what HTC hopes.

However, maybe if they had set it at a more bang for buck price, they might still have sold more phones...the early reviews are somewhat positive...however, if they had made it cheaper than S7 then they maybe could have marketed it as the 'bang for buck king' a bit like Xiaomi. However, going toe to toe with uncle Sammy is a risk and it might not end well I fear...

The leasing programs tend to be at 0% so it actually makes more financial sense not to purchase it outright and to take a 0% note for 2 years.

HTC needs to rebuild their brand which is why the initial price of this phone is less important. They can work out carrier deals, like BOGO, but they need to rebuild the initial buzz that the M7 had in 2013.
