Is the Note 8 the best phone Samsung has ever made?

I was thinking about this question this morning.

A brief history on my Android device use:
I started with the REAL OG Android device: the T-Mobile G1! I have had various android devices since then. However, when Apple came out with the 6 Plus, I was hooked on the iPhone. I did use various Android phones during the last 3 years since the 6 Plus was released (Nexus 6, 6P; Various Samsung Devices (including the hot mess of a Note 7 - pun not intended), a Couple of Hauwei devices, a few LG devices.), but they never took me away from the iPhone completely more than a few weeks. In fact, currently, I own an iPhone 7 Plus.

I even had the S8 Plus for a while. But, even on that phone, it would lag or slow down a bit during certain tasks or scrolling was a bit jerky. So, IMO, it wasn't as smooth or as fast as the 7 Plus.

However, I can definitely say that the Note 8 has none of the issues I had with the S8 Plus. This phone is as smooth and is faster than my iPhone. The Note 8 as actually regained my love for Samsung devices. I actually stopped using my Note 8 for a few days last week, and I almost died (LOL). I couldn't stand using the 7 Plus. I went back to my Note 8 and it is like love at first sight again! I just haven't been this excited about using a Android device in years! It's refreshing!

imo the Note 7 was the best. that said, due to the N7 unicorn status, the Note 8 now reigns supreme among Sammy devices. ymmv

Without a doubt in my mind, yes.

The Note7 was already going to be a tough act to follow despite its canning. A lot of people loved that phone despite its imperfections (of which there were many, I'll tell you that).

After using my Note8 for around 2 weeks, I can say that it has surpassed the 7 and then some. Not only does it bring some improvements, it also feels significantly smoother in terms of performance compared to even the S8+ and despite the smaller battery, also seems to be slightly better on the battery.

The Note 7 wasn't a good device IMO. I think some people say that because it is a unicorn. All 3 Note 7s that I had during that debacle lagged and the phone would heat up for no reason. My experience with the Note 7 was not good.

Exactly! That's why I hate when reviewers tell people to skip the Note 8 unless they need the S-pen. The performance is much better than the S8 TO ME! LOL

I've had many Samsung devices and I can say my favorite for a brief moment in time was the Note 7 (it was ahead of its time IMO). My longterm workhorse that solidified my love for Samsung back in the day was the Note 2. With that said, I've had my note 8 for 30 days now (since 9/5) and it is undoubtedly the smoothest and most consistent Samsung phone I've ever had. Best display, best camera, best battery life, best features, so... Yeah best Samsung phone ever and possibly the best Android phone ever which also makes it possibly the best overall smartphone ever. IMO

Form factor I'd say no. The Note 7 was perfect in size and weight. In terms of usage goes, the Note 8 is exceptional even compared to the S8+ and S8.

And both of mine ran like a charm. Luck of the draw, I guess.

For me personally, yes. The only way i'd like it more is if it were in the coral blue which my Note 7 had.

Having both a Note * and a S8+, I say it's a very close call. I really love using both of these phones. The screen sizes are exactly the same and so far in almost three weeks that I have owned the Note 8, I find myself using both equally. I think both of these are the top phones I have ever owned.

my experience was very, VERY different. best phone/device I've ever owned and would trade in my N8 for my original N7 in a heartbeat (with battery issue resolved).

Really? You would trade your N8 for an N7 (battery issues notwithstanding). Why? What made the N7 better for you? I'm not doubting you at all. I'm just curious.

i absolutely hate apple, with every ounce of my being. but their phones run and operate very well, but that's because the iOS is designed around that one phone and that one phone only. android is designed to work for everything. its just like a computer, windows 10 works great for certain systems but poorly on others. where as apple can get away with running little to no hardware and be okay. However my Fiance had an iphone 6s+ and when the last update came out which was designed for the iphone 7, her phone slowed down and the battery life was as terrible if not worse, than that of my note 5. and her phone was a year newer.
