Is the T-Mobile version of note 8 that Samsung sells on its website locked to T-Mobile sim ?

Hello All,
I am in the market for a note-8. I plan to use it on project-fi. I have been using non-google devices since I like the convenience of project fi.
There is a really good discount going on in the online Samsung store for the T-Mobile version. My question is if the T-Mobile version would work on project-fi or would I need to unlock it ?Also how can I go about unlocking it ?

And the eSIM isn't locked anyway. (Fi uses the eSIM now, not a physical SIM, if the phone has one, and I'm pretty sure that a phone as new as "you haven't bought it yet" would.)
