JDPOSHKUS posted about the People Search app... This does exactly what the OP was asking for, I believe...

For commonly called people, use the Speed Dial feature. It's (at most) 3 clicks (Home > Phone, then long-press the speed dial number. I believe you can program up to 8 numbers, 2 thru 9; #1 is reserved for VM.
