They've started a new rule at work and we're supposed to have our phones off unless at break. It's a huge hassle. Even if your phone is silent, you're still breaking the rule. Is there an app that exists that when your screen is locked all your notification sounds and lights will be disabled and you can only awake your phone by pressing 2 or more hard buttons simultaneously? Thanks guys!

maybe get a profile app that makes your phone vibrate when a call is rec'd and silents all other notifications. Check the market.

can't remember the name of it...but there is an app that has been featured at one time on this site and androidtapp that is able to set profiles and notifications based on gps location/time/etc. can't remember the name though.

Look at "tasker" or "ring scheduler" both allow time based ring profiles. I have mine set to go vibrate at the hour before I get to work, and back to ring half hour after I get off of work.

That would be a great app though since there are many works schools and places that wont let you have your phone on and also a number of senarios you want your phone to be "off" but not off

Not that I know of.

Do they routinely check phones and such? I would just put it in airplane mode.

That's true since Airplane mode turns off all radios, it's no different than a fancy MP3 player, or portable computer. Hell, I'd argue that our devices are no longer 'phones' but rather mobile computers with Cellular data, wifi and telephony capability.

However I suspect that his employment is using the word 'phone' as 'Any Electronic device which might take focus away from doing your job'. In which case he'd still be busted. (Not to mention trying to explain 'airplane mode' to non-techie people).

sounds like they check phones, seeing as how he wants it to be hard to actually wake up as well. so this is a two step process. you need a profile app as mentioned above to take care of notifications, and then something like
Tap Tap App - Android app on AppBrain
tap tap app so that you unlock your phone with two taps on the proximity sensor rather then unlocking the traditional way.

Wow, good one. I never knew something like this in the Market existed. I have no use for this, but it's good to know that it exists in the even I ever need something like this.

Sorry for the late response, but yes, the phone must be off. If your phone is on you get a federal $2500 fine! (I work for the railroad)

We aren't even allow to bring our phones into the workplace. They must be left at home or locked in your car.

Your willing to take chance and get a $2,500 dollar fine just to have your phone on you?

Try to explain airplane mode to a flight attendant! Idiots.

ROFL way to funny make sure you don't get tased by the undercover ATF agent for starting argument with FA.

I am guessing this is imposed do to security related policies. Does your job requires you to work with sensitive information or materials? Now I know if you have your SF86 filed and checked and granted you can't actually legally disclose any information. Even in remote case of L1 confidential clearance I strongly advise you not to have your phone on period, or that fine would be last of your problem trust me. I know this very well :P

EDIT: Oops didn't see you worked for railroad lol I just happen to skip that part but anyways in that case I am thinking it maybe for radio interference or you are operator or something so they want you to focus. Any case why jeopardize I mean 2.5K :O
