Is there a place on this forum for discussing ruggedized phones?

I am wondering whether there is, or will be, a place here on Android Central where I can talk/brag about ruggedized phones? I got a CAT S41 in January and would like to discuss it with other users of similar devices.

Not a bad idea! CAT, Galaxy Actives, Kyoceras ...

I'll ping the Community Manager about it.

What a great idea, milleniumdroid! Thank you so much for suggesting it! I wouldn't mind lurking around those forums! 😃

Well, I need a place where I can ask questions related to CAT phones and also brag about things like being able to use mine in crappy weather (Google Maps in 18 m/sec snow blizzard that happened when I went to Moscow in February, etc...).

How does it hold up in colder temperatures? Mine will shut off at a specific point so I'd love to hear how yours operates in the cold!

I stick it in freezing Russian snow to get a good angle for a picture I wanted to take. The snow was FREEZING! Phone worked fine except for slight decrease in touch responsiveness until you remove it from snow. It held up no problem running Google Maps in -13 Celsius (Back in 2017, my father got an S60 because his shiny new iPhone 5s was crashing in -13 degrees in my courtry).

Oh wow! That's phenomenal! Thanks for sharing that! I want my next phone to be at least water resistant because I do a lot of walking and moving around outdoors... And I always hesitate to use my phone in, say, a rainstorm or snow. Glad it suits your lifestyle and the conditions of your place of residence! :)

I've been living in Serbia for the past 7 years, and the weather here can sometimes get as bad as (or even worse than) in Russia. My S41 is waterproof to 2m and drop-proof up to 2m. My father's S60 can go down to 5m underwater and has a Flir thermal camera (same Lepton model sensor as in the Flir one dongle!). My S41 has a Mediatek Helio P20 (advertised as 8x 2.3 GHz, but actually 4x 1690MHz + 4x 2390MHz, all Cortex A53 cores.), 3GB RAM, impressive 5000mAh battery, Pump Express 2.0 charging, 1080p 5" display, 13MP main camera, 8MP selfie cam, etc... Geekbench 4 score is 3800 last time I tested, which is almost as high as the Kryo setup in the SD820. The Mali-T880MP2 GPU is pretty decent, but tends to throttle heavily if you play GTA for too long. As for the CPU, the 4 faster cores hardly ever decrease their speed from maximum by more that a few tens of MHz (now that is what I call sustained performance of the Big cluster in a BIG.little HMP configuration). And yes, it runs nougat and gets decently frequent security patch and kernel updates (it stealth downloads them when on wifi, and then notified you that you need to install).

I like this idea too. Mutt second phone ever was a rugged flip phone, and I loved that it as basically a mini tank. Lol. I knew CAT had a phone in the past, but didn't know they are still developing them. That S61 coming out definitely caught my interest, though would've been nice with a higher end processor.

+1 vote for some sort of rugged phone sub forum. Its nice that there are phones designed to withstand drops and day to day wear and tear. As a boy scout coordinator 1-2 weekends every month I end up subjecting my phone to all kinds of abuse... sand, dust, rain, moisture condensation...etc.
