Is there a way to automatically dismiss notifications?

I upgraded to the galaxy note 5 and everything's great, except for the notification settings. Whenever I get a text or message in fb messenger, it pops up in the notification drawer, which is fine so I can see if I got something up without unlocking my phone. The problem is that even after viewing the message and replying to it, the notification is still in the drawer until I manually dismiss it. I know it's a little nitpicking, but I just find it annoying to have to dismiss it every time instead of it disappearing after I saw the message like on my old phone. I've searched through the settings, but no luck. I'm running 5.1.1 lollipop if that helps
