Is there a way to clean the status bar without using abd or root?

My issue is that I'd like to clean my status bar (eg:the "no sim card" icon since I use my phone as a iPod) without using abd or roots. I've looked everywhere and every solution I've came across included roots or abd. I'm not a developper and even though abd is quite simple and some apps explain what to do, I never achieved my goal. If there is no way to do that, could someone explain really clearly how to do it with abd or roots?
