Is there a way to recover data from a dead Android phone?

My Nexus 6 is dead. Is there a way to recover data from its internal storage?

Unfortunately not. When the phone dies, the data dies. That's why you should have everything important backed up to at least 2 independent sources. (Cloud accounts are huge and free, even if you have no space left on your local hard drives.)

Define dead - is the battery dead? Or is it just not booting up? Is it smashed up completely?
Does pressing the power button not do anything?

jj14x is spot on, worse case scenario is your memory module is damaged and non recoverable, best case its a battery issue.
But how important is the stuff your trying to recover? is it worth sending it to a company that specializes in that type of stuff?
