Is there an option to have the screen come on when you get a text?

I am used to the note 2 turning the screen on when a text comes in which the note 3 doesn't do. I looked through the options but couldn't find anything. Is there a trick to this? I do like the preview of the message though.

Here's one better. Get notifications just like the Moto X

DynamicNotifications

Air gesture > Quick Glance > On. Wave your hand over the screen for a quick look at notifications. (Turn Air jump, Air browse, and Air call-accept off)

Yes, this will work, but it doesn't allow you to do anything with the notification. It will just flash your screen on when you wave your hand over it. You'll see you have a text out missed call, but you'd have to unlock your phone and go into your messaging app.
With light flow, your screen will actually turn on when the text comes in and you can just respond right from there.

(Please note, this is how it works on the n2...my 3 comes Thursday)

The screen comes on when I receive a text. I'm actually looking for a way to turn it off. Can't find it in the settings though.

I like not having my screen light up with every text message or email. One thing I hated about iPhone when I had it. The notification light is good enough for me in my opinion.

Yeah I have gotten used to it, and since the Speaker is at the bottom of the phone and no longer at the back, the notification sound comes through loud and clear.

from the main screen in the messaging app go to the settings then select the more tab at the top; from the list select preview message and this will give a preview of your message each time you get a text message and if the screen is off it will turn on the screen - hope this helps

And thanks, finally had a use for the split window multitasking thing. Couldn't remember all the steps.

How about making it not to show a preview of a message and not to wake the screen up...just to show an icon at the top for arrival of new messages.???

download NILS lock screen notifications...

and make sure you have it on in preview on messages.

I personally use go sms. I just turned this option off because i think its annoying. They offer a wide variety of notification options including changing the LED blink color and blink speed notification in the top corner... ive had it orange, purple, lime green etc...
But yes i turned off my on screen notification when i recievr a new text.
