Is there any way to open a link in the Chrome app in the background?

Opening multiple links on Android is a pain because of the fact that Chrome is pushed to the foreground every time to open the link in a new tab. Is there any way to have this be done in the background, whereby clicked links would still be registered to a new tab in Chrome, but the current app would remain in the foreground?

I am aware of apps that preload links in Chrome custom tabs and/or floating bubbles, but I would be much happier if there was a method to cut out the middleman.

Thanks.

As far as I know, clicking on a link, whether on a computer, tablet or phone, will launch the default browser, thereby causing the browser to be the current app. I've never seen it work any other way.

Perhaps there is an app or a plugin that will switch back to the current app instantaneously after the browser is opened.

I really don't think one exists. What's to tell the app that you did or didn't actually want the browser to launch and stay up or not, for each and every link.
