Is there anyone who doesn't experience headphone hiss and if so what are you using ?

I'm using denon hp1000 and experience no hissing what so ever. Experience nothing but high quality sound.

For those that say you don't have the problem, are you using in-ear headphones? With an over the ear phone (like the denon mentioned above) or standard earbuds, I don't hear the sound. With actual in-ear headphones however, it's clearly there.

If I had the option of using regular headphones I would, but these are much better for my job.

My fischer audio silver bullets don't hiss. Neither do sennheiser ie8

Unfortunately, I hear the hiss very distinctly with my IE8's. It is just as Zshazz describes on page 2: it isn't easily audible when any music is playing, but you'll hear it right after you pause for about 1 second. Then the headphone circuit cuts out and your headphones go dead silent.

Maybe some TB handsets are quieter than others, but my understanding is that you need 80 ohm (or thereabout) headphones if you don't want to hear any hiss at all. Some people have also taken to using impedance adapters.

As the thread starter I can report back with some more info.

First know that the amp on the Thunderbolt is noisy. Some people may not notice it because of the following:

Earbuds/phones with a high impedance (this reduces volume though and you have to go pretty high to cut it out)

Earbuds/phones with volume control aka attenuation. Tuning id down a bit from max volume helps. You can also add an in line volume control to your favorite earbuds.

Inefficient earbuds/IEMs. Less efficiency means less reproduced sound. The highs of the hiss may not be reproduced as much.

People listening to music without volume changes. If you listen to loud music without pauses, the music will always mask the hiss. Classical music will revel the hiss if you're using efficient eadbuds, with low impedance, in a quiet environment.

I only notice the hiss,
when TB is plugged into power/charger.
No hiss when running on battery.
