Is there anyway to return from "backup pin" to pattern unlock?

I had my phone set to unlock by drawing a pattern, but for some reason it's now asking for a backup pin instead--even though I've never even set a backup pin. Because of that I have no way to get into my phone right now, is there any way to go back to the pattern unlock screen?

A backup method is required in all cases so far as I know. Contact the manufacturer and ask them for help.
