Is this some kind of screen burn in?

Not "burn-in" in the traditional sense where it's the individual pixels are burning the screen. But you'd seen example of JerryRigsEverything take a lighter to a screen to see if they screen will take the heat and after discoloring the liquid crystal it goes back to normal... or if the screen is not strong enough to handle getting hot... just imagine enough heat applied to the back of that screen over a long period of time... months of heat cycles being applied to that screen. That's the type of burn I'm talking about.
Thats a little more rare , No?

Just tossing out an idea. :)

Interesting the similarities of pics of different peoples screens. No distortion around the FPS and all around same area... a little off to the right of the screen and if you see Jerrys N20U tear down you see it kind of matches the area.

The cheese grater pics are interesting and looked up with makes up an AMOLED screen compared to OLED screen... the TFT array layer that is part of an AMOLED display. Looks similar to the cheese grater pattern as shown in the link below.

Something is causing the display to distort. Heat was just an idea. Could be a batch of subpar panels that go bad... like panels that just 'black screen of death' like I just had with mine :p

I hear you

No one mentioned heat im aware of that's why i think bad display , yours also surprised me that it happened that way.

I'm having the EXACT SAME THING! It started last week. Nothing happened to my phone. Screen is in perfect condition. I had a screen protector on it, but it was starting to lift, and I took off. That's when I noticed. My protector was also one of those films you add on. My pattern looks VERY similar to yours (from what I can tell as mine is altering everything I see, but appears to be exactly the same). I'm also on a Samsung Note 20 Ultra.

My 5month old note 20 ultra has this same thing. My screen is fine, had a screen protector on. Just noticed it in last 2 days

My note 20 ultra had that exact pattern. I so careful with my phone cases and screen protector. I took it to. Ubreakifix it in my area
It need a screen with digitater. Samsung considers user error so not covered by warranty was 290$.

That is so creazy. I have exactly the same screen burn on my note 20 ultra and I use the same brand of screen protector. The burn show up after I remove the screen protector.View attachment 341055

Pic of my old note 9 when this happened to me. No screen saver. I was told it's just something that happens when it goes bad. I had it replaced. It was too distracting.

This literally just happened to my phone. Same burn mark. I took off my screen protector last night. Could this have something to do with the removal of the screen protector??

I just took off my screen protector last night. It was also the gel type and the burn just appeared on my phone just now!

Sorry for the lousy photo from my tablet, but it's easy to see that weird light section in the middle of the screen. Just noticed this today. Any idea what happened here? Note20 Ultra on Verizon. It's persistent across various apps and colors. View attachment 329330

If you using some sort temper glass or plastic screen protector. Try and remove it and see if the outline still exist.

Okay even more weird. I removed my screen protector which was the hydro gel type on Sunday evening and then yesterday afternoon my phone had that screen burn mark. I charged my phone overnight and this morning it still had the screen burn and then as I'm riding around in my vehicle just now, I input my next location into my phone to GPS and noticed that the Mark is gone. I do not have a new screen protector on my phone and I'm wondering if maybe I just should not get another one.

I responded to the first author post. Are you the post police or something? Most of us don't read every single post. So do me a favor, don't demeanor someone posts.

Although it can be a hassle to go through a long thread, it is still recommended to do so before posting a response, since someone may have already said or asked the same thing. But thank you for your contribution in any case!

Okay, seems I couldn't see it in the natural daylight. The mark is still there and larger, but much lighter and I can only really notice it on dark grey screens.

This seems to be a recurring theme with folks removing their screen protectors and having these marks. I wonder if the adhesive for the screen protectors is damaging the oleophobic coating on the screens? Has anyone tried using a cloth designed for eyeglasses to try and polish out some of the discoloration? Can you feel a difference in texture when you run your fingers over the discolored areas?

This article made sense to me when i first noticed it on my phone Its only the area where the Always On Display is. I assumed it was the area where the AOD rotates in to PREVENT burn in ... it's one of those things that once you see it, you can't un-see it. I only notice mine in dark lighting / dark backgrounds. Reddit article question below...

"Screen burn-in/image retention due to AOD
I have my AOD on and am using the macOS big sur wallpaper (/r/MacOS/comments/hdzhu4/mac_os_11_big_sur_wallpaper/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) for my home screen. I also have brightness on auto, and the screen on natural mode and 120Hz.

I've noticed that when I unlock my phone to the home screen, the AOD clock image appears imprinted on the screen. It gradually fades away after some seconds of waiting.

I don't see the imprint issue when using a white or black wallpaper. I've never had this issue with my Note 10+, using the same wallpaper.

Is anyone else experiencing this? It's pretty concerning considering I've had this phone for less than a week."

Well, the burn-in usually results in the opposite of what we see in the above posted images. The pixels affected by the burn-in (if it was the result of the AOD) would be dimmer and the perimeter would be brighter.

In the examples posted, the perimeter and the area of the fingerprint scanner are dimmer. Except in the case of the Note 9 pic, which didn't have an under-screen fingerprint scanner.

So, for those affected, was there no discoloration at all prior to removing the protective screen?
