Is this some kind of screen burn in?

Yes I tried safe mode as well as a well factory reset (pain in the *** to start from scratch) and the problem remains.

I already have the unlocked I bought at release. Great phone, just kind of stuck to samsung ecosystem. I just went through and did some app updates on the 1+ and it seems faster than the N20U also.

I just found your post after searching the same issue with my Note 20 Ultra. My "burn in" looks exactly like yours and just showed up in the past few days. What do you think caused it to fix itself?

I think the timing of mine coincided with downloading Android 11. Not claiming it was related of course but a weird coincidence.

My screen just started doing this too. I swear it just popped up yesterday morning, out of nowhere. I'm glad I'm not the only one, at least.

So does anyone have a fix for this, I have the same pattern as the OP. trading in my phone for the pixel 6 pro hopefully they don't notice. it is only visible on a gray screen as others have mentioned. I don't have a screen protector on and developer mode hasn't even been activated.

I have the exact same "burn-in" as the OP and a couple others in this group. Is it possible the round section at the bottom has to do with the finger print system? I thought this was an app that i had open for a while and it was my fault. Glad I found this post. I also agree with everyone else ... it was like it was not there one minute .. and the next minute i noticed it. There was nothing gradual about it.

That is so creazy. I have exactly the same screen burn on my note 20 ultra and I use the same brand of screen protector. The burn show up after I remove the screen protector.

The ovoid area at the lower center looks like it corresponds to the fingerprint scanner. I'm wondering which part of the pattern is the abnormal part -- the darker region or the lighter region? Maybe the lighter region is the abnormal burned-in part, and the other parts were somehow more protected (with the area around the sensor mechanism contributing to that protection).

If I had to guess. it's the lighter region that is abnormal and the dark area which also shows the display in normal color without the color distortion and the "cool" area.

I say cool area because if I had to guess the burn is due to accessive heat from the battery and logic board behind the display. The FPS Sensor is glued to the back of the display and the round area is the entire component glued behind the display and providing a little shielding to the heat being created. The area around the edge is the furthest away from the heat and that's why it shows normal. My guess is that constant heat is just taking it's toll on the display.

That totally makes sense to me!

I've had that exact same thing happen on my older phone. I had to call Verizon and they sent me a replacement device. Unfortunately your screen is toast. They told me no way to fix that when that happens.

I wonder what it could be, then? Regardless of the cause, it still seems to be related in part to the placement of the under-screen fingerprint sensor.

No idea. It's so odd because everyone's screens that do this look almost the same. Always that green tinged grid. It happened on my note 9. Just woke one day turned it on and this crazy pattern was on the screen. I hated to get a refurbished device but that was so distracting I couldn't stand it. Thankfully the refurbished device was perfect. I've not had this happen again but every now and then someone posts that exact same pic. It's so weird!

Not "burn-in" in the traditional sense where it's the individual pixels are burning the screen. But you'd seen example of JerryRigsEverything take a lighter to a screen to see if they screen will take the heat and after discoloring the liquid crystal it goes back to normal... or if the screen is not strong enough to handle getting hot... just imagine enough heat applied to the back of that screen over a long period of time... months of heat cycles being applied to that screen. That's the type of burn I'm talking about.
