Is TMobile's $30 4G plan gone?

NexusGirlX, silly question: Can I buy micro Sim card locally?
I started with the $60 prepaid plan while I didn't know about the $30 prepaid plan. I called T-M'e 8 days after I signed papers first time with T-M'e and was told to wait till the month goes by. I went to T-MB'e store and bought $30 code couple of days before expiration of prepaid limit. I was told at first I can't do it; however, after sales rep talked to supervisor I was told to wait 3 days past prepaid cycle, which is today.
Today I was told I can't do it and to go to Walmart and to buy another phone pack to get the prepaid $30 100 minutes 5GB unlimited text.
I am worried that I will loose my over 13 years old used cell number while my T-Mb'e account is gone. What should I do? I don't have money to throw out of the window. Thanks

So the plan still exists in Walmart, but with a cell purchase.

$30 for 100 minutes unlimited text and data, but capped at 5GB is a perfect plan. Just port over your old number to Google voice and use talkatone or forward your calls. And you have unlimited everything for 30 bucks a month :D. Plus if you wanted more minutes it's only 15 bucks for 150 minutes :D still cheaper than 110 a month. But my company pays for my phone so this doesn't apply to me. I would do this in a heartbeat if I didn't have that luxury.

Only thing is call forwarding does not work on prepaid. It's a pain to get google voice working correctly on the phone IF your SIM number is the same number you are using for google voice. Can't even my voicemail to google voice. And if you port your number to google voice then you can't get MMS there. So you have to give up something somewhere to use the $30 plan LOL. I just settled on giving up google voice for now and use tmobile visual voicemail. In a couple months, I may switch to Solavei so I can use the same network for $49 unlimited everything including call forwarding. I can't do it now because I have a $100 balance from a promo on my account and I'm not losing it LOL.

I was able to signup for the $30 plan yesterday. Website made it clear it was for new activations only. However even though I activated the plan I still haven't paid for it (because I still have quite a bit of credit on AT&T.) Just wanted to make sure I got it in case the plan disappeared after the announcement. Does anyone know how long I can go without paying before they cancel my activation?

It's a 100 minute plan designed for SMS & data users who don't talk much. That's what they expect people to give up. If someone needs unlimited minutes, tmo sells other plans for that.

There are tricks to use VOIP instead of air time but, like you said, most require you to give up something else. That doesn't bother me. If somebody wants to kludge a way around restrictions, I think it's cool if it works but I'm not going to feel sorry for them if it doesn't.

It's like towing a trailer with a Prius. If it works OK for them that's great, but if not... :D :D

I've been using the plan since the summer when they had a promotional sale on the Samsung Exhibit 2. I've gone over minutes a few times but the additional is only 10 cents a minute. The secret is to have a bit of a cushion in your account balance so you don't lose voice service on the interim. (The 500 mb cap is just too small for me. I notice no-one caps text messages anymore )

Yes and I agree. I only mentioned it because they posted to use google voice or talkatone or forward your call. You cannot forward your t-mobile number on the prepaid plan. You can port that number to google voice and then have that number forward to your SIM number but then you lose MMS. So just letting them know that they aren't just giving up minutes, they are also giving up some basic features that most assumed are included. But I agree with you.

I feel you don't have to if you go through Calling Cards | Prepaid Wireless Minutes | Phone Cards | Prepaid Airtime Wireless Refill from CallingMart. Just refill off the card, and maybe that would work?

I think that would work. On T mobile, is there even a difference between post paid and prepaid anymore? Don't all their plans now fall under the same "uncarrier" umbrella? If so, what happens to the taxes that you would pay for if you were on contract with them. I am talking about the taxes you have to pay with ATT, Sprint, and VZW, when you are on contract with them --- does T mobile even have those anymore?

I think their new plans do have taxes because technically, they are post paid plans. And it does say at the bottom in tiny print that taxes and local fees are not included. If not, then that's great!

I also don't think you can use those prepaid refill cards on the new plans. They are still post paid, just no contract. It will be interesting to see what they will do regarding the prepaid plans. Besides the 2 $30 plans and pay as you go, there's really no benefit to having the prepaid or just signing up for the "new" plans. I have a couple prepaid and I am going to call them to see what they say about converting over and ask some of these questions.

What did you buy to be able to get the new contract? Are you using Nexus 4? I simply can't find a way to get a new contract with this cell. T-Mobile lists Walmart as the only option, while Walmart does not sell micro SIM cards separately, nor a cell with a micro SIM card. Well, at least not in the Indianapolis neighborhood.

You can order a micro sim from t-mobile or amazon. You can also go to best buy. They usually have the activation kits on the shelf. It's the same price as buying a SIM from the other places. If they only have regular SIM, best buy can trim it down for you (for a cost) or trim yourself. You can also get the best buy card, activate it on the phone and then go to tmobile store to give you a new SIM since you'll already have service.

So guys I did talk to t-mobile about the plans and switching and such. So you still have to do credit check to get on the new plans and any prepaid balances you have would be lost. It's basically just like applying for service except it's just no contract. This is most likely needed since it's post paid. So I'll think about switching later. I still have $100 on my prepaid account and my current cycle isn't over for a little over 3 weeks. So I really have 3 months of service left and I'm not losing that. It would defeat the purpose of switching if I'm going to lose money.

Yeah, If you think about it. Tmobiles new plans are awesome. If not revolutionary. I can see other companies following because regular customers are already paying 95-110+ if you're in sprint verizon or tmobile. Everything unlimited for 90 bucks a month and no contract. I would rather do that than sign with one or the other companies, specially after their LTE is fully deployed. When LTE is deployed we are gonna see some big time competition, they're greedy now because it's costing them hundreds of millions if not billions to invest in the new infrastructure, but once it is set. LTE is stupid cheap to maintain for them, so they're going to start fighting for our money, and no more caps:)

Actually, it's $70/month for unlimited everything with no caps ;)

Yeah, I noticed as well when I decided to check for purposes of this thread's discussion that it's very, very hard to find the $30/mo plan, and I'll bet that Joe Average would never be able to find it if he didn't know to look for it and have a lot of patience to do so. I don't understand why T-Mo won't let you just buy blocks of minutes to add to a pre-paid plan; there's no accounting reason I can think of, such as iOS for iPod Touch costing you money for updates, but iOS for iPhone does not, due to accounting practice arrangements established in accord with Sarbanes-Oxley.

*shrugs*

They probably want to keep it simple. Maybe it's part of their "uncarrier" image.
