Issue: Cannot get Clockwork Recovery to stick

Clockwork Recovery will not stick for me on my Nexus 7. I have tried manually flashing with adb, as well as flashing through ROM Manager. Both appear to work, and will boot into Clockwork the first time. I can also boot into CWM from ROM Manager. I cannot, however, boot into Clockwork from boot (volume down+power). It just stops at the Google logo and never goes further.

I have tried the recovery-from-boot.p.bak method, but that file does not exist on my tablet. I am using Root Explorer.

Any help guys? It's not a big issue now but will be when I get to ROMing more heavily when more are released.

It's a known issue. You can use terminal in the meantime. Reboot recovery is built into most ROM's though. No go from the bootloader however, although a few people are saying they're able to.

Use terminal, fastboot, or adb until you get on a ROM.

Reboot recovery works on the CM10 Kang by winner00. I'm running it now without issue.

You have to change a file. I'll get back to you when I figure it out. I had to do it on my xoom.

Here i found it. From an old post of mine.
You have to disable the stock recovery in the system folder. System/recovery-from-boot.p just rename it and you'll have to flash cwm again.

Clockwork is there, but you can't boot to it from the bootloader unless it's plugged in to your computer. Use ROM Manager to get to Clockwork in the meantime. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future.

Its just the stock recovery takes place. Cm9 takes advantage of what I posted and disables stock. That's all you're doing.

He's talking about a different issue. The Nexus 7 only boots into recovery when it's attached to certain USB devices. This goes for stock recovery, CWM, or TWRP. People are looking into it but no fix has been found, well other than carrying a USB hub with your Nexus.

You can reboot directly into recovery from your device through terminal emulator.
Type:
su (hit enter)
reboot recovery ( hit enter)

Just like the OP, I'm stuck at the logo after the same attempt to boot into cwr. I can't turn it off or anything else, anyone tell me how to get out of the logo screen???

Thanks

Hold the power button for 20 seconds and it will force it to power down. Then read my original post here. You have to be plugged into a computer for recovery to boot. This is a know Nexus issue (regardless of recovery software) and so far as I know no one has an explanation or a fix.

I know this is an old old post, but you just helped me get my CWM going on my Nexus S. I was having the same problem where I kept getting the android with red triangle and everything I was searching said to delete or rename etc/install-recovery.sh. Problem was, I couldn't delete or edit it at all. But your tip above seemed to have worked. Thanks!

Has this been fixed yet as mine still wont boot into recovery unless i use rom manager or if it is plugged in

Correct. I have detailed manual rebooting steps in my Kraken guide.

You must use either (1) manual reboot w/ plugged in; (2) an app/toggle like RM or GooManager; (3) adb commands in either your computer's terminal or Android Terminal Emulator (simply type "su" then type "reboot recovery"); (4) a custom power menu, which is a feature of most roms.
