Hey there everyone, after hours of google research, i turn to you for some help.

I have 2 phones. A Note 3, and a S4. I have downloaded and installed all drivers (they never install successfully), Samsung Kies, have turned on USB debugging, as well as gone through the USB Menu from the dialpad. Nothing has worked to get the S4 to connect. My note 3 connects perfectly fine.

I am currently trying to root the s4 to use simply as a teether device from a 3rd party company. Something I have done previously with success.

I have searched the forums, and the only issue I have found is that some people say to make sure you are using a DATA cable, which I am .

I really appreciate anyones help.

Things I have done:

-Factory Reset
-Battery Pull
-Drivers Install
-Try different USB ports
-USB Debugging On/Off
-Samsung Kies

You could update the S4 to the latest KitKat or Lollipop for your region and see if the issue persists. Also when connecting to the Pc turn off all instances of Keys from your pc task manager. Switch to another data cable.

Phone is currently not activated, and I don't want to update it. This same cable I am using worked several months ago when I was transferred everything off of it so my wife could use the phone while waiting for her upgrade. So the cable is good, in fact using it right now to downgrade my Note 3 from Lollipop back to KitKat

My thinking is it is something with the phone itself, and hopefully someone has an answer. I cant be the only person who has had this issue.

Just checked, and cant update to a newer version of KitKat or Lollipop. Says Internal Error 407

If your main goal is getting root on your s4,i would imagine you can just download Towelroot.apk and root your device without needing to connect to the PC. You would need to turn on wifi on the phone to use the browser to download Towelroot of course but since you are on 4.4.2 your kernel should be vulnerable to Towelroot.

As for not being able to connect the s4 to pc, I see you've tried pretty much everything I would have suggested except are you plugged into a USB2 or USB3 port on your pc? (I know you said you've tried switching ports but maybe they were both usb3?) USB3 doesn't play well with some Android devices. You can tell the difference by unplugging your cable from the Pc, if the inside of the actual usb port on the pc is blue it is USB3, try a USB2 port. Since your note 3 is detected I would assume you're already plugged into USB2 port but you've tried most other solutions.

Hope this helps and good luck!

On the pc have you gone into device manager and cleared all the Samsung usb devices? Restart pc. Then download the latest usb drivers for the s4 from Samsung. Retry attaching the s4 and let the device install completely.
