Issues with Smart Switch not transferring everything

Hey guys. I got my T-Mobile phone yesterday and used the Samsung Smart Switch app to transfer all of my files from my S7 to my S8+. Things mostly worked fine but I noticed that my text messages didn't transfer so I did the Smart Switch again, this time only transferring messages, and they still didn't come over.

It's not the end of the world however I had A LOT of messages which took a lot of space. Considering I did it twice, I'm afraid they actually are somewhere on my phone taking memory but the native Messages app or Textra (which is what I actually use) can't see them.

Any ideas on where I can look to see if they are on my phone? I noticed that my call log didn't transfer over either but my apps and pictures did.

SS is not perfect, There is a really good app called SMS Backup & Restore (I have used this since before it was bought by Carbonite and it has worked well for me, you may need to tinker with some of the options).

Cheers,
BR

With my note 7s I had to do it a couple times for everything to transfer. This time I only transferred 6 months of messages as I was on a time crunch.

I can vouch for this - I like to keep my texts/MMS' this app is free and works perfectly!

I'm having the exact same problem.

I have tried to use SMS Backup & Restore, Samsung Smart Switch and the AT&T Mobile Transfer all to get my texts over from my S6 to the S8+. All of my SMSs from the senders are transferring correctly; however, virtually none of the texts that I have sent to people are being transferred. It is very strange. I cannot figure it out but I'm desperate for a solution!

I have a lot of texts (the backup file is about 3GB). I've tried to transfer only texts from the last 30 days but that still doesn't work so I don't think the size of the file matters.

Thanks

I tried the att and smart switch for iphone and it failed. it failed last year with the note 7 and it failed this year with the s8.

oh well start fresh

I believe I have seen this before, If memory serves correctly there is some option in the messaging that turns on some enhanced feature that causes this, I ran into it on the Note 7 going from the N7-1 to N7-2, all rec messages were there but not my sent messages. (it may have had something to enhanced emoji or something similar)

Try SMS Backup and Restore. That works like a charm and can even transfer messages over WiFi. I'm not sure where they are stored on the device unfortunately.

Did anyone get this figured out? This is a big issue.

Hi,

I had trouble backing up my messages too. My messages weren't being backed up, but the sender's were. It was right after I upgraded my phone. Finally figured it out that my advance messaging option was turned on (by default). Backup and restore and other programs cannot read advance messages (rcs). I contacted carbonite, and they confirmed this.

Check and see if your advance messages is turned on. Its under setting in the messaging app.

Hope this helps!

Andrew

Hello, I am having a similar issue. Long story (will try to make short), used smart switch to transfer everything from S6 to S8 on Saturday. Forgot that I also have my messages stored in the vzw cloud. So, overnight they all populated the S8, somehow I ended up with 3 of every text plus any pictures sent and received thru text were replaced with random images from my gallery (it was super strange). Talked to verizon, they said it's because I restored from more than one place. Makes sense. They had me delete all my messages online at vzw, then delete all my messages on my S8, disable the vzw cloud (to be safe) and then do the smart switch transfer for texts only since everything else had transferred over just fine. I let the phone sit overnight as it was taking quite a bit of time for all the messages to show up (think there were 10,000), they slowly populated while I was watching, starting with most recent and going backward. When I checked the phone this morning pretty much everything was there but one whole contact (at least 1,000 messages) is missing and all pictures that were sent/received are gone. I use Bitmoji alot and none of those images are there either. I chatted with samsung this morning and they said to just do it again. I'm a little worried, seems like something is wrong. I still have all the texts on my s6 so it's no problem to transfer again but still worried. Now everything is gone from vzw so I can't use that as a back up if the samsung transfer doesn't work. Couple things - I see sms backup and restore is mentioned, I'd like to try that but does it have to be on both phones? The S6 was inactivated to activate the S8 but it can connect wirelessly of course. Please help, I'm freaking out as some of the texts and pictures are very sentimental and something I can't have resent (the people are no longer here). Thanks in advance and I apologize for the long post.

Also, if you can eventually get them to appear on the native messenger but not Textra, as was the case with me, you may need to Resync Textra by going to Settings > About > Resync Textra.

Yup. In my case I have had duplicate messages. The Resync always cleared that up.

My Internet bookmarks made it from my S8 to my N8. Id have been super bumbed if I lost those.
LOT of effort went into Quick Access.

This - sight u unseen- sounds promising. I'm always interested in file management, sync.

Duplicate File Fixer (and no ads, though I usually buy apps to support and remove ads if they do)

Sounds good! I had a similar program on my pc once, only issue I had with that one is it removed the wrong duplicate, it removed the one that had the correct time/date stamp on it and kept the newer one that I had transferred with a modified time/date. That was a long time ago though. I'm tempted to try this app to see what happens! :)
