Issues with static, crackles, pops, and squeals during calls

Hey, I'm curious those of you who have the G2 audio problem (or have had if you returned the phone), can you tell us what state and region of the state you live in? Maybe we can pinpoint it to a certain part of the country where there was a bad batch of phones or problems with towers in that part of the country.

For me, I live in Southern Alabama.

I asked this question on the VZW forum, jjmmhh stated he lives in southern Florida. However, I live in southern New Hampshire. That's quite the tower perimeter if you ask me. The two phones I've had shipped to me came from Tennessee and Pennsylvania per the Fedex tracking reports.

I live in Oklahoma and drive a truck in this regional areaof the U.S.

My family bought three phones in store and all were bad plus I have the issues in every State I drive to so it is not the tower that is the problem.

I posted about this in the general forum but I will also post here. I immediately exchanged my G2 for a different phone when this problem started occurring. I was hesitant to buy a cutting edge phone made by LG for this reason as they seem to have dropped off the face of the cell phone planet prior to the G2 release. Both of my local stores did not recommend the phone and now I know why. I hope the issue is fixed via a software update so I can ditch this HTC One with crappy battery life and crappy camera and pick up a working G2.

So, I've decided I'm going to stick it out for a while. The smart part of my phone gets a lot more use than the phone part, and I love the smart part!

I called Verizon just now and the person I spoke with a couple of days ago did make notes on
my account to the effect of o get I new phone if I decide I can't take the audio issues anymore.

Glad that worked out for you. I would try to get them to send you some sort of confirmation of their agreement just in case. You never know what could happen to those notes in your account.

So here is something oddly funny. I video Skype'd with my G2 today on the 4g network and everything was crystal clear, no shrieks, squeals, etc. I have been using my old phone but thought before I call VZW tomorrow to get a 3rd phone I would give it a try and see what else I could do with it. Well the skype thing came up while I was playing with my dog outside in this 70 degree October weather and decided to video chat with my in-laws so they could see him. Everything was fine with it and it led me to try and make a regular phone call. Nope, same problem still makes all kinds of noise. Now I figure the skype call uses the 4g data connection while the phone call is using the 3g/1x link to communicate with towers but I still find it frustrating. I wonder if there is a way to forward all of the calling to an app that uses the data connection, I am not sure if google+ does this or if there is something else to bypass the voice connection which is obviously the issue. Anyone use a 3rd party app or google+ to forward multiple numbers (work, home, cell) to one number?

Yea, I've found other weird things about the problems too. If the other person can't hear you, put it on speakerphone and then it's crystal clear. I admire your willingness to fix the problem by doing voip but that shouldn't be required. The phone should function as a phone first and foremost!

I agree, but if someone has the phone and is past the 14 day return period and have no leverage with verizon then it could be a work around for them. I will be getting my 3rd phone this week to find out if it was a bad batch of phones or something else. If tech support says anything of importance tomorrow I will post it.

Update: While customer service was nice and helpful, the lady told me that since my 1st phone seemed to still be in shipping, (I shipped it on Oct 8th), they could not send me a 3rd phone until that was received. I decided I would go to my closest corporate store and just return the G2 I had and get a Note 3 and new sim. I left the store, which I live about an hour from (traffic) and got home and made a call to order take out. Huh, what is this squealing and crackling I am hearing? I'm getting the same thing from the Note 3!!! I put my sim back in my old phone, a GS3, and it worked fine. I have come to 2 possible conclusions so far. 1. The new S800 processor is not playing well with my (our) accounts. 2. The infrastructure is not supporting the new S800 processor phones in certain areas. My step dad who got a new verizon account and a Note 3 last week has not said anything to me about it but I plan to call him when he gets home tonight to ask if he is having these issues. We live about ~10 miles away from each other so I assume he is using similar towers. I will edit if there is anything else I find out.

Edit: Went over to my parents house when my step dad got home to test out his Note 3. Put his sim in my phone and put my sim in his phone. Yeah it is my account, his sim worked fine in each phone while my sim made each phone sound like crap in phone calls.

How strange. I thought it might be something related to certain accounts but didn't think that was a real possibility. So I assume Verizon is going to be the only one to figure out what's going on then since it's account related. LG (and now Samsung for you) might not be able to help us. Definitely relay this test you tried to Verizon and see what they say. Try to get someone in the higher technical levels because they seem more knowledgeable.

Interesting... my account was checked by Verizon and they said it is fine... I really hope the Note 3 is a huge seller and they get swamped with complaints!

I am starting to wonder if there are a bunch of terrible Sims out there. I know one guy said he tried 3 Sims and I think someone might have tried a previous SIM, but still I wonder. As stated prior, the SIM that came with my phone woukd not program. I even let it sit 15 minutes. I put my Nexus SIM in and now all is great. Ifindividual accounts are actually getting corrupt, then it may be very tough to narrow down.

Here is what I did today. I called customer service and changed my sim again to one that came in the credit card type holder that you pop out. I didnt put this sim in my old GS3 and kept it in my note 3. I tried it and it started doing the garbling. So at lunch I went to my local private owned vzw store who knew I was having the LG G2 issue and told them what has gone on so far. I showed them how it makes the sounds then asked if I could put my sim in a phone that doesn't have an S800 processor. One of the girls had a Motorola Razr M and so I put my sim in her phone. It worked absolutely fine. They wouldn't let me put it in a new G2 or Note 3 but I really think it has something to do with our accounts in certain areas with these S800 phones. They gave me the direct number to tech support and I went back to work and called them on my work line to keep my cell line free if they wanted to try anything. Tech support said they will have the engineers that cover my area look into it and focus on my number. I haven't heard anything back yet but I should get a text and email if they figure anything out. I asked if this is resolved and it wasn't the phones if I could get back a G2 but the tech guy said he couldn't promise anything. I don't know if this is just my account or all of us with this issue all had the same thing happen to our accounts when we activated our G2's. But I will make VZW get to the bottom of this if it kills me.

Unfortunately I don't think it's sim related because I tried my previous gnex and s4 SIMs in the g2, all causing the same issue.

Just FYI... it took a week for the network engineers to call me from when the ticket was put in by tech support. By then I returned the phone (my third one) so they couldn't help. They said they couldn't look at my call history and deduce anything from it even knowing which calls had the problem (because I tagged them). They had to have me reproduce it in real time. So my ticket got cancelled. It's a shame they didn't offer to extend my 14 day period until they were able to investigate the problem. It actually seems pretty stupid on their part - I was a willing test case. Except they treated the problem like I was the only one in the universe who had it, so who cares if I return the phone and stop trying more G2's... no more problem for them to have to deal with! As an engineer myself I find that mentality kind of revolting.

OK, now I'm aggravated. I tagged the calls and had to keep calling tech support because nobody ever called me. Tech support told me that Network closed the ticket with a note that the problem was my phone.
