Its Friday, anyone get their D3 Yet?

Already had to do a battery pull. When closing the keyboard, the screen locked up. No t a good sign.

I have yet to have that problem (knock on wood) been playing around with it for about 2 hrs now and so far nothing but silky smooth on my end :)

Ordered the phone yesterday with a one year contract online for $224.00 (This is only available for business accounts). I just received the phone today. My thoughts:

1) Battery drains very quickly.
2) Battery overheats and because the battery cover is so thin, you feel it overheating in your hand.
3) Cover for the Battery is very hard to remove and can easily be broken.
4) To many VZ apps added.

Other than that the phone is nice. I went into 2 stores to see if they had products for the phone, cover, cases, etc. The rep kept arguing with me saying it was the Droid 2. That they still did not receive the Droid 3 and the stores had no idea when they would be getting them. They didn't even have a display unit on hand.

I have used it quite a bit and the battery drained very quickly off the of the first charge. After that it seems to be fine, I played a bunch of games, surfed the net and wrote a bunch of emails with it barely dipping. Interestingly, it also got very hot the first go around and now hasn't since.

Just some observations, I'll update if it gets hot and dumps the battery.

Is the screen Pentile? Anyone with one can tell us if it is? (you can tell if you look at colors. They'll look grainy and not smooth)

I've read that it is pentile so I would say yes. I am not an expert when it comes to displays, I can compare it to my girlfriends Fascinate tomorrow and to an Iphone 4 on Monday. It doesn't look bad to me

It doesn't matter if it looks good or bad, it only matters if its pentile or not(where's the sarcasm smiley when i need it?)

That's pretty funny. And yet people will still rely on Verizon reps for info about upcomiing phones. lol

Oh I don't care either way, I was just curious. I fully expect it to be since all of Moto's new qHD screens are.

The biggest giveaway would be the battery indicator. With the pentile, you'll be able to see individual pixels, and the green will look more brown up close.

So it's pentile. You know what? It's still the best handset display I've ever owned. To me it's beautiful.

Ya I think its a pretty nice display. A tad grainy, I notice it while playing peggle, plants vs zombies but I think that has more to do with the games. As a whole I have had extensive use with og droid, T-Bolt, Droid X and Iphone 4.. I would say its a very close 2nd to the iphone 4 in display. Iphones display is just a tad better.

Pentile then... looks fine to me, i don't put my nose to the phone often. I am guessing the bionic will be too. You have to go with what you like though.

Yet this beautifully ironic, because the one positive of pentile tech is that it's more battery-friendly - so although the indicator looks bad, it'll stay greeny-brown longer!

just ordered mine n bout to have my first android phone whenever it gets delivered. can anyone compare it to (based if they like it more) coming from a blackberry?

I came from a BB and iPhone, the BB is great for what it does but this phone just does so much more where browsing and Internet is concerned. The BB that I have is just so slow and takes forever to open web pages. The iPhone is great for many things but you cannot put a extended battery on it and the notifications are not nearly as good as the D3 is. Also being a heavy Kindle user, I wont have to get in the middle of the fight between Apple and Amazon. Android is free to use the Kindle and I have no fear of being cut off from my books. Take your time and really learn Android and I am sure you will love it. This is the right forum to get good friendly information.

Oh like I said, I don't really care. The LCD pentile matrix is WAAAAY better than the AMOLED version, and neither bother me. With the DX2 I've played with, you have to be all up in there to notice it, and in normal usage you wouldn't really.

Can't wait for the Bionic now though!

Cell Standby seems to take a lot of battery...I tried the following and will see how it works.

Settings--->Wireless & Network Setting-->Mobile Networks---Switch Network mode from Global to CDMA

I am not sure if it was looking for GSM or not, but it's worth a shot.
