Yep my constant bashing of at&trash has been proven by consumer reports. Your the worst carrier for reception out there. So at&t what you going to do? I expect NOTHING because you really don't give a crap about your customer just your bottom line. So keep up the good work and I'm sure you could make the bottom in every catagory. Oh wait you did make last in every category. Maybe now my wife will realize it and switch. Even if we get a deal through the city
It ain't worth the dropped calls and the other problems were having. If it wasn't for the Captivate I would have been out of here. Hey how about that update you keep saying is being pushed by text message.

AMEN HALLEUJAH lets go hold torches to the ATT stores :D.

I am almost serious about this if GPS fixes and Froyo dont appear soon. ATT gonna be history for me after this contract

I don't think its all att. The galaxy s is just an extremely poor phone for reception.

The Captivate is the best phone I have ever had for reception and call quality. I drop maybe one call a month, maybe. If I have a problem, or a phone dies on me (I've had several BBs that just died at 11 months), I've never had a problem getting a replacement - customer service has been excellent. They even worked with me to replace my wife's BB after it died out of warranty.

I had a Droid through work and talk about horrible call quality - it was like talking through a tin can. I tried to get a different one and went to the Verizon store and tried out their demo unit - sounded the same. I got rid of the Droid in 2 weeks and got a regular flip phone.

ATT has been great to me - I've had them for 8 years or so. Before that, I had Sprint and I dropped calls every time I picked up the phone - I tried 4 different phones in 2 years with the same experience - and I live in the same city as their World Headquarters!! It was ridiculous how lousy their service was. I understand now they have cleaned up their act, but the 2 years of horrible service has kept me away.

Call quality is unusually fantastic! Reception quality has never let me down...I've hit some deadzones while driving (understandable), but I can't remember dropping a call in my area!

Where I'm at, At&t is near flawless.

Yeah I get pretty good reception here too. The customer service has always been good too. I just wish they get some better phones! Or at least get us froyo....

In Seattle they are so so. But I live outside the city and reception and call quality are great in the burbs.

AT&T is hit or miss in a lot of areas. I have quite a few friends who have them and in my area coverage is so-so. One day it’s great the next it’s horrible, and it’s very spotty. In other areas I’ve been in like Ft. Dix in New Jersey, they were the ONLY ones to have coverage.

ATT is great for me and I have been with them since the 80s. No problems in the Bay Area and in 96' moved to Colorado where they had the best coverage inside my building at HP (In fact many others switched their provider when they saw the coverage I had). I have had very few dropped calls - maybe one per year. Verizon seems to have better coverage in the mountains than ATT (probably due to the supplement) they get from OnStar

I've learned over the years to take Consumer Reports with a grain of salt. The tests tend to be very flawed.

Basically, they ask consumers, and who do you usually get when you go on a campaign? All the people with issues for one reason or another.

Yo have 30 days from the day you sign to decided if the device and carrier are right for you. If you aren't happy, CHANGE. For me, AT&T has my business for the forseable future.

Just curious, but where is the OP from?

Sorry for not answering I usually do in posts I start...Im in NY out on the Island. Where I am is hit and miss from town to town. In the city same but forget about Downtown. It was working for awhile in the city but that only lasted about 3 weeks.
Here on the Island like in Massapequa I have no service unless I stay by the Southern State Parkway. When I get into Suffolk County say Bye Bye in almost everyplace I have been. Again unless I am by a major highway.

When I had my BB I complained on the Crackberry Forum and some other ones, but I am stuck thanks to my wife and this family plan we have through the city job. I don't care how good of a plan you get, if you cant use the phone wtf is it worth. Today in Bethpage I connected in a cellar but then I go two blocks above ground and no service or intermittent with one bar.

Verizon works because I have to use my friends phone to call back people trying to reach me. I am not sure what the problem is because it is good sometimes and then other times it just drops calls or internet service. I have 3g according to the icon.

I am happy with the Captivate and whenever the froyo comes I can wait. I am using the OCLF and I have no problems with the speed of the phone. Yet I do understand the problems with calling up and not getting an answer. I cant complain about customer service if I go to a store. They have always been able to help me out.

It just amazes me that all these other carriers have reception yet att drops off if you get away from a highway. I have had better luck with this phone in PA and the Carolina's until I get away from a highway. My BB didn't even work when I was on a major thruway 40% of the time.

I really want to go to Verizon but I might have to give up the wife and kids to do that. :p

I used to drive OTR as a truck driver, and had very few places I lost signal. NYC area was one of them. The signal band AT&T uses has a hard time negotiating the large buildings, and I don't think they have a lot of repeaters in the city.

If you are having problems, discount or not, why use it? Go to the carrier that works for YOU.

That's what I simply can't understand. People will know a certain carrier will work better for an area they are in, but yet they continue to stay with a carrier that has poor service in the area and complain about it. People do that here with Sprint.

Simply put, use what works in your area. It isn't rocket science.

In my area (metro Detroit) I've had AT&T for five years and maybe five dropped calls in that time. Prior to that I had Verizon and constantly had dropped calls almost on a daily basis, so did my girlfriend. I'm sure Verizon has upgraded their network over the last five years but I'm unwilling to use them after my experience. I just got my Captivate, in fact I'm on my second because the first one had random shutoffs so that required a two year contract extension. I would have liked to go with Sprint because the monthly cost is $30 less but when I looked at their coverage map it wasn't nearly as extensive as AT&T's for my area.

The biggest problem I've had with AT&T are the phones themselves. After three Motorola Q's, three HTC Tilts, two HTC Fuzes and now my second Captivate over about four years I just don't think smartphones are all that reliable. I think because they're mini computers we expect computer level reliability and they're far from it.

I've never had a problem with AT&T customer service but their tech support is hit and miss depending on the person. One of the things I really liked about my HTC phones was HTC's excellent tech support and from what I've read Samsung isn't even close but with AT&T if you want Android and a 1Ghz processor the Captivate is the only choice.

I don't know if it's AT&T's fault, Samsung's fault or a combination of the two but hopefully they will get the problems with the Captivate worked out. One thing's for sure, you have to go with the carrier that has the best coverage in the area you most frequently use your phone.

Raven71 - I've had friends in the same situation as you using a family plan to save money. They had horrid service - T Mobil but stayed with it. Not a lot of sympathy from me on that as I have lived by the motto that you get what you pay for. For me I also like that I can use my ATT phones when I travel overseas.

Nophix - As a CR reader and contributor to the reviews I agree. You have to really be a engineer and read between the lines on the reviews. One good thing that I know - one of the board members came from the Audi Club of North America and hence had help push the reviews of higher end cars.

Don't really have too much trouble with dropped calls. The thing that is pissing me off right now is not having froyo and in addition, no official message from ATT telling us what the delay is. Hell, even if they're still working on adding their bloatware, I'd like to know that.

I'm not too worried about when we get it. The phone does everything I want right now - an upgrade will be icing on the cake.

Of course having my Xperia X1 maybe conditioned me not to expect upgrades. :)

Alot of carriers are going to be hit or miss in some cities and have dead zones. That is unaviodable with any carrier. It all depends on where you live. I have the Evo for my personal phone and the Captivate for my work phone. I know where the dead zones for my AT&T is and the dead zones for my Sprint are. Its going to happen

Agreed. In my area AT&T has one of the best coverage out there. Sure Verizon has awesome coverage in town but beyond that they bounce off Sprint and they have lame service. US Celluar has the best but their plans and phones blow the big one.
