I've got the EVO - ask me anything!

Would like to know if there is a way to "disable" the camera button unless the screen is unlocked. Again this issue revolves around those who carry it in their pocket, you don't want accidental bumps of the camera button to turn the screen on (for those who use a security pin/password) or launching the camera app (for those who don't use security code).

Second question -- are you sorry you said "ask me anything?" :p

OK. I'm gonna answer a few camera questions right here.

1. The shutter button. It doesn't turn on and unlock the phone. You have to already have done that. (And the user guide confirms this.)

2. The camera's supposed to focus when you do a half-press of the shutter button. And it's not doing that, as confirmed by a number of us yesterday. The good news is that it's continuously auto-focusing.

I noticed in some of the HTC One X reviews (the quad core version) there was noticeable lag with sense 4. Everything else seemed to worm perfect, but there were little delays after selecting things throughout Sense. The videos I've seen of the 4G LTE didn't appear to have any lag, but those were show models at conferences/events. Have your noticed any lag like this while navigating through Sense? Thanks for doing this Q & A!

Any lag is going to be more subjective than you think. Without knowing what it was you were watching when you thought you saw lag, it's tough to answer.

Regardless, I'd imagine a virgin phone would run just a tad faster than one that's been set up as a daily driver, you know? That's why I don't read too much into it when someone says they see lag. There are just too many variables.

Ok, sorry to harp on this so much, but just for some additional clarification. Even if you press the screen on button and then press the camera button, it will not open the camera app?

If you can't tell, I really don't want to have to add the camera icon to my bottom row just so I can launch the camera from the lock screen.

Thanks

Hey Phil, Can you give me the results of the following commands?
Code:
adb shell
mount
ls -l -r /dev/block
I need this info for an upcoming project.

Of course this is run from your desktop with adb installed and the device hooked to the computer.

didn't like -r ... But here's what I got.

Code:
ls -l /dev/block

Is the NFC integrated into the removable shiny black cover section (like on the Nexus S), or is it part of the phone?

Phil-
Sorry if you have already answered this, I read through all of this last night when everybody when bonkers posting.

How is the external speaker? I have had all the EVOs, and then I bought a Motorola Photon. The Photon had an awesome external speaker and really ruined any HTC products external speaker for me since! Thanks :)

This is a good one since the GNexus notification light is pretty weak and located at the bottom where it seems harder to notice in daily use IMO.

i do like the color of the led on the nexus, too bad the evo only has green red and orange. that's what i remember unless they changed it.
