I've got the new Moto X, you've got questions. Fire away!!!

The OG Moto X's panel was pretty poor, and not because of the 720p resolution (which certainly did not help). Hope to get my hands on it as soon as possible, but thanks for the answer.

I think displays might bother me a little less than some folks. I tend to get used to them pretty easily. I might prefer one temperature over another, but they're not deal-breakers for me.

I'm confused about why this is being talked about as if it's new with the 2014 Moto X. I have the original 2013 X, and I can turn on the active display by passing my hand in front of it.

I gather the 2014 X can do something more than this?

Yep. The IR ports can actually see your hand.

Stereo sound yes or no? The internet is all over the place on this issue with some reputably reviewers even claiming the X speakers are on par with the M8.

I've never seen anywhere that it mentions stereo speakers. The bottom opening is a mic.

I love the dimple on last year's moto x how does this one compare to last year's?

I'm not crazy about this new crater — way more than a dimple — at all. Last year's was subtle. Part of the design. This year's seems off — as if they planned on actually doing something else with that space.

The options on the market:

1) A nexus device
2) A massive low priced phablet
3) A heavily skinned never-gonna-be-updated-this-century big brand name phone
4) The moto x

I'd send my mom to option 3. I cant get a nexus on verizon. If I wanted a phablet I would get a note (i have a note 3 right now actually along with my x). The moto x fills the remaining void. Sounds like you've made your feelings known and would be happier with the oneplus.

If I were on Verizon, I could see your point, though an M8 will fetch about 499 on Ebay with 32g, better sound etc.

I assume Carrier Bloatware is present, so is any of it able to be un-installed?

Originally the product specs on Motorola's page referenced two speakers, hence the confusion. It has since been updated to reflect only having a single front-facing speaker.
As Phil reiterated above, NOT stereo.

Yes it is. And no it can't be. (At least not on this AT&T one I have.) You can still disable. But not uninstall. I'd recommend going for one of the "carrier-free" versions if you can. Not sure if those will be T-Mobile SKUs like last year, though.

Any word on availability for the unlocked version?

Really wish these manufacturers would start releasing these phones on the day of announcement - I'm too impatient for this stuff...

How's the build quality? We talking HTC/Sony level, or a step below?

I think it looks better than last year — not having plastic **** up against plastic is a big part of that. I think the leather is definitely going to show signs of aging sooner than the other finishes, though. That'll be interesting to watch.

Everything seems fine about the phone except the small 2300MAH battery for a 1080P screen of that size. So how is the battery life till now? What is the kind of screen on time you are getting?

People need to stop worrying so much about screen-on time. Especially with a phone that's designed to be used with less screen-on time.

And we also need to remember that a lot of us — particularly those of us reviewing phones — are wearing watches that also are designed to keep us from using our phones.
