I've got the new Moto X, you've got questions. Fire away!!!

Hi Phil!

Moto Assist, Trusted Bluetooth, physical shell customizations, and touchless commands (Moto Voice) on an otherwise stock Android experience are what set apart the original Moto X and made it a far more satisfying phone than the specs would indicate.

Slow performance, so-so battery life, and a bad camera were the big cons, and the ones that personally sent me packing for an M8.

If the new X solves those problems while maintaining the previous attraactions, I'm down to buy on day 1. I'd guess I'd like a holistic opinion on the new Moto X.

Have you chased your kids around for pictures yet? I don't need the best camera, but I don't want a bad one. Also, after the M8 I don't want a sluggish phone...

I've barely seen my kids in a week. And I'm back in an airport now. :( I'll try to get Andrew to run around on the floor or something.

How many notifications can Active Display/Moto Display display? Up to three?

Not much sense in being able to bypass the lock with voice, right?

Unless they used voice print, which they should anyway to lock the phone to respond to you and listen for you in a noisy environment...

Not much point in the feature if you can't use it with a locked phone.

Holy cow, take a break man. Thank you for dedicating time to cover the new moto line. I'm pretty sure that we all can wait for answers. Also, thank you for answering my question from before

Phil, thanks for your help and time to give us all a perspective until new x comes out.

my question:
I understand you're on the at&t version; however, would you happen to know if the new x has the hardware/software to allow for hd voice, volte, (vzw in particular)? (Perhaps it was brought up in Chicago?)
by soon having a larger volte network, I'd like to know if this phone will support it.

Looking forward to new X! :D
(had to type this up from the pc so that my thunderbolt won't know and get jealous -is already suicidal)

I hope Anandtech confirms F2FS for the filesystem. It helps makes the first generation Moto X and Moto G just fly.

Nice try, but I'm not giving you my secret phrase that anyone can hear me say out loud.

(I'm using OK Moto X for now. Need to come up with something cooler.)

Is there a minimum length or requirement for the custom voice control? I've read somewhere it has to be a minimum of 5 syllables?

Phil said "Soft touch is soft touch. Leather is leather. Wood is wood."

  • Soft touch is done well--little grippy but still smooth to the touch.
  • Leather feels really nice. It is sourced from the same company that makes NFL footballs (high quality).
  • Didn't touch the wood backs, but would assume that they feel the same as last year's wood options.

Not sure. Verizon's press release mention anything?

What are your thoughts (and experience with the 2014 X) regarding Motorola abandoning its X8 design?
The X8 architecture was the one hardware thing that (seemingly?) kept the X relevant last year. It really made sense to have dedicated cores for certain processes to keep the phone responsive.

It looks as if we may see the X in Europe before spring this time. Possibly with MotMaker. Could be interesting.

Awesome AC.
