I've had it after only a month! Moving on to Pixel 2 or LG V30 when they come out

I now hate this fingerprint sensor and that emotion is bleeding into the whole phone. It is the doorway to the phone that you use all the time to get into the phone and actually use it. It's critical. It's Samsung! The major player! Shocking.

It's totally hit and miss for me. It's frustrating. It takes me multiple taps almost all the time. It's slow. It's ruining my experience with this phone.

I did post previously ask if others had similar experiences. I got mixed responses. I know some of you say it works great. For me, it doesn't. It's not my fingers, my Nexus 6P and Mate 9 were completely normal, even faster. I have tried the trick of recording my index finger twice on one hand.

I am really annoyed by this having spent so much on this phone. I am annoyed that it's taking away from the otherwise amazing experience with this phone - once I get it unlocked.

No, I don't want to switch to PIN - although I might have to - and it requires multiple interactions to even enter it. I wear glasses so iris is even slower and fails almost everytime. Face unlock is also finicky and not nearly as secure.

Just sucks. V30 looks interesting but I think I am going to go back to Pixel. Grrr - what a waste of money! The one thing I will REALLY MISS is wireless charging. It's wonderful. Maybe the Pixel will have it. If not, I'd rather plug in then deal with this frustrating FPS.

This is just my experience. I am jealous of those who don't have it.

Welcome to the club. Same thing happened to me too when I got an S8+. Had enough of the awkward placement of the FPS, annoying curved glass, and freakishly tall display. The last straw was when I wasn't able to install a freaking screen protector and case together, did anyone considered this when they designed the phone?? Bought another V20 again after selling my old one, the experience was night and day (daily usage and handing wise). People who say the fingerprint scanner placement is fine are in denial, it's a terrible placement, we all know Samsung placed it there for pure looks. FPS in the rear back center is the most logical and convenient/comfortable spot.

That it barely works? No. I heard all about the poor placement which I figured I would get used to. Nothing about how crappy it is. I wouldn't have bought it if people were complaining more about this.

You probably missed my threads I posted. I complained a lot and I think people were getting butt hurt lol. It's a GREAT phone, just not logical how it's designed.

Today I used an S7 and S6 for a bit, really enjoyed that flat screen and front FPS, so much more comfortable and easy to use. Good old classic Samsungs.

You guys.... the only thing I am faulting is the fingerprint sensor. The problem is, this is an extremely important part of the phone. It's in the deal-breaker category.

The sound on this phone doesn't hold a candle to the Mate 9 but I'm not complaining about it. It's not a core feature and easy to live with. It's plenty good enough. It doesn't get the updates that the Nexus got (now Pixel) but I knew that would be a fact with this phone - actually, any non-Google phone. Everyone was so high on this phone, it's the greatest, etc. etc. The one consistent complaint was the LOCATION of the fingerprint sensor. I knew what I was getting into.

The screen... WOW... it's beautiful. The form factor... It fits so much better in my hand than my previous large phones. It has a an incredible amount of settings to adjust and features that other phones don't have. The camera is amazing, I'm getting beautiful photos. I can actually find a large range of cases so I have exactly what I want. And.... oh man... wireless charging! I love it! Why isn't everyone doing this?

I should have investigated sooner. I should have read more into this forum before my 2 week return period ended. I should have noticed that I might be in that minority who will have a negative FPS experience. The phone is just so amazing that I missed it.

I acknowledge that it works great for some people. Awesome. You're lucky. Judging from this thread, it does not work great for enough people for me to realize it can be a thing with this phone. For those of you that have a good FPS experience, can you say that if it took you just.... 3 tries everytime, maybe not working at all every 5th try, would you be sitting there saying things like, "Hahahaha, miserable to own the best Android smartphone out there. What is happining to this world?"

Posting this has brought forth some good ideas to deal with it so I'm glad I did. I have enabled the "on body" smart unlock. I'm considering the smartwatch smart unlock. Oh... and I am going to turn on the one in my car. That should alleviate this enough that I can enjoy using the phone and not start every interaction with it in frustration.

I'm not sure if you've made your decision to move on or need convincing. Sounds like you're opting to keep? Personally I have no issues and who knows, maybe a future software update will fix your problems.

I personally have never been sold on the FPS. I mean, it's nice, and I get that people like it. It's even better that as a side effect, the amount of people securing their phones nearly doubled (or tripled...can't remember the statistic). But what I truly wish is that Google would adopt trusted wifi.

Finger Print Sensor is a must have for phone security and ease of access, also for multiple apps I use. S7 user here reverted back

I'm going to stick with it until the Pixel 2 XL. The V30 is coming out before it but it would probably be wise to wait for the Pixel 2 later in the year. If this FPS issue continues, I am defintiely switching phones.

You're right, could be a software update fix. I'm also thinking of doing a factory reset to see if that changes anything. I really, really want this to work. The phone is really great.

The V30 is supposed to be good, but so is the Pixel 2 XL. If you want a slightly curved screen, the V30 has that. And, if you like audio, you'll want the V30. The Pixel looks like it might be losing the headphone jack.

It is getting easier to reset phones. With syncing between Google and other cloud accounts, 3rd party launchers that can save setups, a reset might be a good idea.

Interesting - I find the FPS to perform better than on my S7e. Often, I don't even have my whole finger on it and it unlocks immediately. In any case, I've never had an issue where it didn't read my fingerprint unless my finger was not on the FPS itself. I actually thought that it was nice to have such a fast and responsive FPS given that it's on the back.

Has it occurred to you that people weren't complaining more about it because people aren't experiencing what you are experiencing?

I don't mind the placement at all and like you, mine unlocks for me immediately.

in the beginning I had a hard time with it. I couldn't get my finger where it needed to be, so I'd get a lot of false readings. I got frustrated and disabled it in favor of the Face Recognition. After awhile I tried it again and made sure to lock it several different placements. Everything from upside down to half a print.

it works great for me now.

I know the FPS placement sucks, but display models are there for a reason so you can try them out to see how you like them. I'm quite disappointed Samsung will put the FPS in the same spot on the Note 8 and that's why I'm reconsidering purchasing the device because I hate the placement so much.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. Maybe you have a bad unit? I love the FPS and the location. Mine is instant everytime and it's right where my finger naturally rests. I also use facial recognition and again, instant. I really wonder if it may be the phone itself in your case. I would contact Samsung and have them replace or fix it.
