Last year with the N4, a lot of people (excluding those with screwed up cancelled orders) got phones well before the shipping dates. I think Google just wants to make sure their a$$ is covered.

Someone on the official Nexus 5 thread on Macrumors just said their buddy received his shipping tracking number. Obviously take that with a grain of BS salt.

Android Police is also reporting that people are starting to receive tracking numbers.

It turns out I didn't actually order any nexus 5 device. While others are receiving tracking numbers what I get is a 6 hours late cancellation confirmation.

When I first bought the phone I got that cryptic "Order not completed It is taking a little longer than normal to process your order". Thinking I did something wrong I clicked the cancel button. It said the order cannot be canceled anymore. Oh well, I'll wait for a bit. Two hours later I get a confirmation number saying my order has been received. Perfect. Can't wait for the phone. About 6 hours later - at present time - I get a cancelation confirmation. Turns out they actually were able to cancel the order. It's just that everything lags by 2-6 hours.

So now I'm left with no order placed and no money to place another order since I still haven't received the money back on my first order. Overall a terrible experience. You'd think a company that dominates the web would be better at running a fairly basic web store application...

Oh well... maybe I'll try again tomorrow... hopefully it will still be there...

Ordered the 16GB Black, but got the dreaded ships in 3-4 weeks under shipping status in my order e-mail. Will I have to wait that long or is that just a way for Google to CYA in case it does take that long?

Funny thing is I had no intention of doing that whatsoever. First link I clicked on androidpolice only showed a 16GB in black so of course I ordered. A second link showed both a 16GB and 32GB so I ordered a 32GB. At the time of the second order I saw how simple the URL was in my browser and on a hunch changed black to white and hit enter and low and behold a white order page so I purchased what I originally wanted, a white 32GB. I tried to cancel the first two orders about 3 hours after the purchase and was told I couldn't because they were already preparing for shipment. Up for sale they went (CL for now).

Believe me I didn't wake up today looking to spend $1200 on 3 cell phones.

So my confirmation email says "Ships by Nov 5th." Is it reasonable or unreasonable to think that it may ship tomorrow Nov. 1st?

Some people who have that on their e-mails have already received a shipping confirmation number, so no it wouldn't be unreasonable.

Darn it. I was SO set on not getting a Nexus 5 - I thought I'd do just fine with my Nexus 4. I even held out most of the day until about an hour ago and I gave in. At that point, I wanted to go for the 16 GB model, but it wasn't shipping for 3-4 weeks. The black 32 GB was shipping within 2-3 weeks. So I placed my order for the black 32 GB model (I have NO idea what I'm going to do with all that space) and shelled out $400 - currently it is slated to ship by 11/15. And the worst thing about this? I'm freaking euphoric!

I am just trying to understand. I ordered my 16GB Black at like 6:00pm-ish Central time and got a confirmation email with an order number. Of course it says shipping in 3-4 weeks. When you say you have not received confirmation yet does that mean you have not gotten an email yet?

No no. I got my e-mails immediately. I haven't gotten a tracking number yet, which some people have gotten depending on location and time ordered.
