January OTA Security Update Now Available!

Took a long while for the update to download/install.

First impressions is that the fingerprint sensor is slightly faster than it was on November update. At its fastest, it's still way slower than Samsung's ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which is pretty much instantaneous. Pixel 6's fingerprint scanner is still inconsistent with the January update. Sometimes it'll take a half second to unlock, another time it'll take a second or more to unlock. Outside in direct sunlight, it's still very slow.

Reception might be better than what it was on December but will need a few days, especially at work, to see if it has really improved.

Otherwise I'll be keeping an eye on heat and battery life. Having faster charge on the Pixel Stand 2 is nice.

Haven't encountered any visual bugs yet. I used to have keyboard issues where I'd tap a text box and a blank keyboard would pop up with no buttons. Haven't seen that in the last hour or so, which is nice.

The only other fingerprint sensor I've had was on my 3XL. Both my 3XL and my P6P sensors are reliable and take less than a second to read. I've never had anything faster, so I'm OK with that. I lived for many years having to enter passwords and the FPS sure beats that.

Just ran into my first bug. I decided to re-enter my fingerprints in the hopes that maybe with the January update, starting with fresh fingerprints will make it read better, then ran into this.

The fingerprint interface for some reason overlays the settings menu. I still managed to enter fingerprints but had this visual glitch.

And the fingerprints didn't seem to work any faster with re-entering them.

Do you have a PIN setup? It will ask for either a PIN or fingerprint verification when changing security settings.
So you must not have a PIN so it wants your fingerprint to authorize the changes.

Yes I have a PIN setup. A PIN is required for you to use fingerprint unlock I believe.

It asked for my PIN, I entered it then it went to the settings menu and brought up the fingerprint scanning interface (per the screenshot).

That is a bug! I just tried it and it did ask for my PIN but not my fingerprint. Weird I wonder if a restart would cure it?

These in particular have been "bugging" me.

Fix for issue preventing use of Call Screen feature on certain networks
Fix for issue causing higher background battery usage in certain conditions
Fix for issue causing Wi-Fi network to drop connection in certain conditions

Still cannot end calls when connected in my car via Bluetooth from my steering wheel or display have to end from the phone itself....was so hoping this would get fixed.

Must be something specific about your vehicle, ending calls via steering wheel controls or touchscreen control works fine for me (Jeep UConnect).

Thanks, yeah I was afraid of that...but no issues with my P5 and P3 with it however, just the P6

That would stink. I personally don't have that issue, so I'm not sure if that would be a problem with the cars ability or the phones. It seems like if that was a phone issue we all would have that issue. But I could be wrong. My wife says I usually am hahaha

And of course I'm also using android auto so maybe that is also the difference although it does still use Bluetooth it maybe the difference of the android auto app....

Finger print seems to be a little quicker. Its a fraction of a second slower than my S21 which is a fraction slower than my Flip 3.
It's probably as good as optical can be.

Downloaded and installed early this morning. Have noticed a couple of the minor bugs I had seem to be gone. Will need to use more to see about the others. I will say my bugs were minor, none of the connection issues.
