I think I'm in the minority; I love GB. It was my first exposure to Android and I got comfortable with it. I kept hearing great things about ICS and the first round of roll-outs from Sprint were horrible. I reverted back to 2.3.6, rooted and CWM'd and have been happy. Tried ICS a few different times, but never liked it. Flashed Jellybean this morning and playing with it now. It's sort of quick, but battery life seems to be worse (yes, I wiped cache, factory reset). It just seems far less intuitive to me - though how much of that is actually the case vs how much is in my head because I'm still used to GB is the question.

I thought I had to step in here with my thoughts.

I have seen reviews and comments all over the web how great ICs is (and JB after ICS).

However I am sitting here scratching my head.

My experience is as follows.

Every update of android from google seems to serve to increase integration with cloud and remove privacy, so eg.

On GB can disable sync globally from the settings for all apps etc. and can also disable all background network activity on apps.
On ICS can still disable sync but can no longer disable background network activity.
On JB neither can be done until after the account is added to the phone and its already started syncing the global option is removed.

On GB can toggle animations, on JB this option is removed.

GB has a better launcher can add shortcuts directly, on JB I can only toggle background/wallpaper etc.

GB has a far superior dialer, ICS and JB I cannot only display phone numbers, I cannot remove pictures from display, I have less options to set per contact.

GB and ICS I can clear all notifications in one go, JB the clear all button is gone I habe to swipe each one away.

GB has a much better network unlock screen than both JB and ICS.

GB whilst in calls has a good button layout, in ICS and JB its regressed significantly.

GB and ICS can use wifi to detect location, on JB its now GPS only.

I also have observed JB is noticebly laggier than ICS to use, I did benchmarks which gave noticebly lower read speeds on the sdcard, I then decided to do a new quadrant benhcmark, my galaxy S2 on JB barely scores higher than my galaxy ace on GB . On ICS the socres are mighty high but JB has some pretty bad performance regressions.

Phone runs very hot in JB Cool in ICS/GB.

The only advantage I see with ICS and especially JB is if you happen to need one of the few new features that they add, and they are very niche features. Also maybe if you need to use a ICS/JB only app eg. chrome is ICS+ only. I do see lots of people saying they better but they never really say why, simply saying "new features" is too vague because all I see is cut features not new ones.

When it comes to stock firmware, new is better. (Nexus users benefit from this fact)

However, when it comes to custom firmware (ROMs), it doesn't always apply. For example, CM10.1 nightlies, M-Snapshots and Release Candidates may be more cutting-edge than older builds but are filled with bugs, whereas stable builds are (almost) completely usable as a daily driver. (CM10 stable on my SGSII works perfectly, but CM10.1 is significantly slower, even though it uses newer code.)

I imagine JB on an S2 probably does suck. Try it out on an S4 and compare that to GB on an S2.

I just got an update for Android 4.1.2 this morning on my Samsung Galaxy Rush, which was horrible when running on ICS, because it would lag and freeze daily (hourly even), so bad that sometimes when I would try to turn on the screen, it wouldn't do it. But I have noticed that ever since it was updated to Jelly Bean, the phone is running more smoothly and a lot faster, I have not encountered lag or even one freeze as of yet, which is kind of a miracle to me. But it always depends on the phone, one version could be great on a device, but put it on another device, it might hardly run.

Many times clearing the phone's cache helps with hiccups from updates. But also to answer this thread, I think JB is the best so far, but the OS to introduce the best features is ICS.

Although, there is no difference between any OS of Android, but I still have a doubt which OS is better from their functionalities and features?

I upgraded from ICS to JB on my HTC One X. I think the problems far outweigh the benefits. The Wifi bug is the biggest annoyance.

Yeah, mine's a lot faster and smoother. And battery life is much, much better.

My HTC One X is NOT any faster with JB over ICS. The battery life is noticeably shorter with JB too. JB created new problems - the biggest of which is the WiFi bug.

Depends on the build of Jelly Bean. JB 4.1 works GREAT, especially on AOSP-based ROMs like CM10. (Stock TouchWiz on 4.1.2 is significantly faster than 4.0.4 ICS TouchWiz)

Then again, I've seen better performance when it comes to JB 4.2 on the SGSII. It may either be due to hardware limitations, ROM coding, or the official JB 4.2 source code that Google released.

Either way, users with older legacy devices should all be so lucky that their phone still has some life in it thanks to the numerous devs out there working to get the latest android version working on them.

I think it really matters what device (as already stated), and which JB your on. If your on 4.2.x on like a nexus 7 or something, then i would agree with you 100%, JB sucks. My nexus 7 was upgraded from 4.1.x to 4.2.x, and it really sucked. I hated it till it was finally updated to 4.3.x, then most of the problems were gone. I have the Droid DNA (HTC on VZW) running 4.1.1 (with Sense 4+ over it obviously) and its great.

You also have to account for the fact that each OHA member as well as non OHA member companies tweak their version of android differently.

As we've seen with the galaxy line, lots of features doesn't mean stability and performance. As opposed to something like the moto x and new droid lineup, those phones have very little tweaks (aside from carrier) and they are practically bugless.

Okay...here goes my spin on it from the OS that I personally experienced.
Froyo: Clean...stable...not exactly the fastest, but runs like pure crap on devices like the Sanyo/Kyocera Zio.
Gingerbread: Stock GB sucks whale balls when it comes to battery life! Every device I used it on has absolutely abysmal battery life. ROMs, however, are another matter. CM7 & Joylicious Optimus on the LG Optimus S both sip battery instead of guzzling it, and Stripped/Strapped for the ZTE Score is pretty nice, too.
Ice Cream Sandwich: Ahhh, The SAMMICH. Back to fairly bad battery life if I'm doing anything other than listening to music. Ironically, as ROMs improved, so did battery life. The functionality is simpler by comparison for me, too.
Jellybean: A bit sluggish, even with SlimBean installed. I could care less about 4.2, as the only thing from there I like was the lock screen clock widget.

Im wondering if it was a total waste of money as my phone doesn't seem to have a function "move to memory card" even once SD is mounted. Can anyone help me with this please? twitter- @thesaucymare

Help!!

I have an HTC Jetstream tablet that is using honeycomb v3.1 OS. I am dissatisfy with that OS because I am not able to update it or whenever I want to install some apps it is saying that my tablet is not compatible with the particular app.
I would like to change or be able to update the OS. Can someone please advise me what to do? I would really appreciate this. I would really like to use the apps that I like but I am not able to do so now and it is very frustrating. PLEASE HELP.
