Jump to S9 or stay with the G6

I have a G5, and am hoping that AT&T drops the price of the G6, now that the S9 has been released. I like trying to find the year old flagships at a great price.

I honestly don't understand the obsession with processors. my G6 is super snappy and the battery is great even with all the pointless apps I have left to delete.

Sounds like you want to upgrade for the sake of upgrading.nothing wrong with that, but it's wasting money. G6 has become the best phone I've ever had

I'm a little biased because I personally love the G6; but if you are enjoying the phone and only have a few minor gripes about it (non-dealbreakers); then I would recommend staying with it, especially since you stated you aren't a fan of Samsung's curved screen and its skin. Even with 845, it will still be a Samsung with a Samsung interior. However, you can always play around with it in the stores when it's available and see if you would enjoy it! Let us know what you decide!

So there's more to newer processors than just speed. The SD 845 should be noticeably better on battery life due to being 10nm and octa core versus the 821's 14nm and quad core. The modem in the 845 is faster and the camera improvements should be big. My G6 is plenty fast, and it's built like a tank but the camera isn't always great and it does have some other quarks.

So it's not just upgrading to upgrade, battery life, general performance, connectivity and camera capabilities should be noticeably better. But the G6 is no slouch, it does the job and curved screens make me really nervous because no case protects them.

So no, it's not absolutely necessary. I'd be just fine with the G6. It's just not the phone I wanted to get initially and had to settle for because it was the best available for the price.

That's the plan, there's a lot I love about it and I think that's why I hesitate to get rid of it. I'm not going to pre-order the S9, I'm going to wait till it's in store and I can get my hands on on it because like you said it will still have Samsung's software, though I'm not sure there's a huge difference between it and LG's.

Though one of my biggest frustrations with the G6 is happening now as I type this. It wants to swipe as I type with my thumbs. It takes me twice as long to compose a message as it should sometimes because I have to back up and delete or correct and it's getting more frequent. Never had another phone do this. Really frustrates me.

you can fix the typing issue easily. clear the cache. what keyboard are you using

Yeah I do that all the time but it always comes back. I use Gboard, but I've had it do it with the LG keyboard and swiftkey as well so I gave up. Sometimes I turn off gesture typing but I don't like doing that because then I can't gesture type when I need to.

That sounds like a good plan! Hmm, are you using the default keyboard? Have you tried looking in your keyboard settings or using another keyboard app? SwiftKey and Gboard are my two favourites.

Edit: just read the other posts here - I see that you've used third party keyboard apps as well. Has this happened since you got the phone? Weird that it can't be stopped.

It started after the second update I got I think. Didn't have an issue at first. So roughly been doing it since October?

It's very sporadic, only done it once today. But, I haven't typed a lot today. I can turn off gesture typing and I don't have an issue but then of course I lose the convenience of that.

Swapping phones constantly is not a waste of money if that's what you enjoy. For example. I happen to enjoy it. It's like a hobby of mine. I probably buy 10-12 phones a year. Since January of this year until now I've had 4 devices. But it's my joy and my hobby. I'm sure you enjoy things I feel would be a waste. But just because it's a waste to me wouldn't make it a waste to you because you enjoy it. That's how it works.

But back to the OP. If you like your device and have no issues then stick with it. But if you have the extra cash and want a new device go ahead and switch. The s9 will be a upgrade to the g6 no doubt. Or you could wait and see what LG brings out later in the year. But if your always looking ahead and waiting because something better it coming out. You'll never get anything. The tech world moves at lightning speed.

I can understand your predicament with regards to gesture typing... Perhaps an ensuing update would fix things. I find that you always take a gamble with updates: will they help you or ultimately cause glitches? You'll never know until you download them! 😓

Everything is up to date and had been for months, I've even done multiple factory resets.

This happens to me on a daily basis. It seems to happen when I switch from gesture typing to thumb typing when the keyboard doesn't recognize the word I'm trying to gesture. It's happened since the first day I bought the phone. I haven't tried a new keyboard (I guess it's not THAT big of a deal, then but it is annoying.)

I'm known universally for my horrible misspellings because of that issue. Never had the problem on my Moto X, but I can't remember if I used Gboard or the default Moto keyboard, though I suspect it was Gboard also.

See it does it to me when I'm not trying to gesture type. Just using my thumbs and all the sudden it starts swyping stuff in.

Theot . . I have had a similar experience, and my conclusion has been that anytime I allow my thumbs to rest on the keyboard just a microsecond too long, or if I'm 'lazy' and don't completely get my thumb off the glass as I move from one letter to the next, I think the software assumes I'm gesture typing and goes into that mode . . that probably doesn't help you but that's my 2¢

I'm with T-Mobile, and this thread has got me thinking I'll at least wait to see if the release of the V30 Q comes with a good G6 trade-in offer, because a V30 gets you almost twice as much as a G6 in exchange for an S9.
