Jury Duty and the EVO!

What do I do with the EVO for Jury Duty?

I was on a jury panel for two weeks and we were allowed to keep phones with us (off or on silent) and laptops in the deliberation room for use on breaks.

The Social Security office required that cell phones be turned off - for obvious reasons.

Call ahead and see what the court policy is on cell phones. otherwise, leave it in the car, it will be ok.

I've had to leave my phone with the secuirty guard, and I've usually just lock it with a PIN, and since they can't get in, they leave it alone. oh yeah, and turn it off when you hand it over.

I do the same.

For what it's worth, I am a bailiff in Hillsborough County, Florida, which is Tampa. You are allowed to bring cellphones into the courthouse. All we ask is that they be placed on silent or vibrate while in the courthouse. If you are in fact picked for a jury, you can keep them with you throughout the trial until you go back to deliberate. At that point, you will leave them in the courtroom until you are finished in the jury room. As others have stated, check with your local courts to see what they allow. Good luck.

Tell them that you live in another county and have been for the past two years and that its a mistake. I for one would NOT be without Georgia, I mean my EVO!

Ummm Did you name your EVO? I Find That To be Funny Cant Wait Til I Get Mine. I Think I'll Name Her Lula...

i'm not so worried about them snooping into the phone since it'll be on security lock. what i'm worried about them is banging it around in some metal security cage or worse yet dropping it while handling it while i'm gone. especially since it's naked with no case at the moment. stranger things have happened. these public servants can be brutal!

i hate being without a phone all day but i may just leave it home.

thanks for the info. my problem is i must report at 8:30am tomorrow morning and obviously nobody is there for me to call now and ask. and the drive is ~1 hour each way. the summons instructions said that cell phones are ok if on silent BUT cameras are banned. i really don't want to leave this phone out of my sight. 4.3" of glass is just to delicate and fragile to be banged around. and my experience is that people can be very careless when it comes to other people's property.

Why not put it in something to protect it? Maybe a camera bag if you have one or fashion some type of pouch.

I'm sure this is a common occurrence and I doubt the bailiffs will be careless with everyone's phones, but as I said before, just take an extra step to protect your phone if you're worried.
