Just got a call from radio shack

Okay, so I printed out 4-5 Radioshack $10 coupons, and went down to my local RS to try to see if they would let me use them.

One of the workers there started to check me out, THEN another came in and said that "coupons can not be used on giftcards".

I asked if I would be able to use the coupon when purchasing my Epic.

In which he said "You can use that coupon towards accessories you buy when you purchase your phone" in which i replied "Im not buying any of your over priced accessories i just want to use the coupon on the phone!"

So it was a failed attempt. Kudos to anyone who got someone stupid enough to let them use a coupon on a giftcard.

Whoa, I would never have the courage to talk back to them like that! I salute you for that talent, as I can come across as too nice.

I think I may of got away with it due to being in that store a few times returning bad EVOs....3 of them.
kid that rang it up recognized me didn't think twice about applying coupons.

Didn't mean to come off sounding so harsh. I was angry about not being able to use a coupon. :p But come on now, you can't use the coupon for pretty much any of the electronics in the store. What good is that?

I'm not kidding. I honestly couldn't do that no matter how ticked I am.

thats dumb...why cant u use a coupon on gift card? I woulda flipped!

You can't use the coupon on Apple products, laptops, gift cards, cellphones, or gps.

AKA you can't use it on pretty much anything in the store. Stupid.

I'm going to a few other radioshacks in my area tomorrow to see if I can find any store that will let me buy a giftcard with the coupon.

You can use it on battery connections, wiring, remote control cars... pretty much nothing anybody goes there for anymore.

I got on Radio shack email list today & received 10.00 off coupon on 40.00 purchase so I went back to Rshack site and put in my secondary email and guess what , Another coupon arrived.
I did this 3 times took the coupons in and bought 3 50.00 giftcards for 40.00 a peace.
So basically I'm saving 30.00 on my epic :)

I'd fire the person who gave you those discounts so fast his head would spin.

And while I understand everyone wanting to save a buck, do keep in mind that while it is possible to exploit the less intelligent people of the world, you are putting their jobs at risk. There is a loss prevention dept that monitors transactions like this and they are more than willing to fire people for doing discounts on things that shouldn't get them.

If he worked for me I would forgive...at least on first slip up.

Exploit lol What is the the Steve Wilkos show.
I cashed in coupons & he ran with them.
That doesn't make him less intelligent he made a mistake...we all do don't you?
When it comes to getting him fired.....if he does which I highly doubt he learns from his mistake its meant to be.

Considering that he had to blatantly ignore the computer telling him that GC was not eligible for discounts, and he didn't think to find some sort of verification that he should be using the coupon.. yea, he'd be canned.

As for my use of the word "exploit," its more in reference to the trend of one person finding a way to pull one over on the retailer and everyone tries to hop on the bandwagon and do it too. And while you don't seem to think there's any chance of consequences for the employee who did it (whether by accident or intentionally) I can assure you that I've seen plenty of people lose a job over similar circumstances.

I understand that times are tough and people want to be frugal, but I don't think it's right to put someone's job on the line because I want $30 off my cellphone. (And you'd be surprised how many people ask for absurd discounts and get pissy when I wont give everything away like candy on halloween)

And (at least to my knowledge) no brick and mortar store out there lets you use coupons on GC's, so it really shouldn't be a shock that it's against the rules.

Why are you chanting? nothing better to do?
Go into XDA tell them to stop modding roms that provide free Sprint hotspot. There actions cost Sprint 30.00 per user every month imagine how many jobs Sprint has to cut due to that.

I wanted to save a couple bucs cashed in some coupons the store rep that took them & made a mistake.
Big deal it happens everyday in the real world one way or another - Stock trading , Government , Company take over ,Company's playing consumers etc I could go on & on
Does it make it right...NO but hey that's life.

Last I checked, they started offering the hotspot feature to phones WELL AFTER it was already done on rooted phones. Where's their check to the original devloper?

Simple stuff Andrew.
Sprint hot spot is disabled you must pay 30.00 a month to use.
Many custom Rom builder enable the feature so their users don't have to pay Sprint that 30.00 hefty fee every month.
Those that build such rom & its users are taking advantage getting service for free.
Are both party wrong? of course.
Do they care? NO
When developer post such changes made members are jumping for Joy not thinking of hit Sprints taking , they are thinking about money in their pocket being saved though

Wait, it's that simple? The freaking disabled it and that's all? Wow, no wonder Sprint is 3rd in sales...and everything else.

Whatever, they're still losing money though! It doesn't matter if you're #9000 or #1. If you're not making the money that you are expecting to make, then it's pretty bad.

Last I checked, custom ROMs don't just enable the Sprint Hotspot. They use this app instead. That app has been around much longer than the Evo has, which is where Sprint Hotspot debuted on Android. It currently doesn't support and Galaxy S models, so we will be waiting a bit for this to work. I doubt Sprint is losing money on it as its funds they never could get from other devices. I would believe they were losing money if people were hacking the Sprint App like they do with the VZW app onto Sprint Pre's, or if the app were available on all Sprint Smartphones like the Moment and Hero. I don't have a problem for them charging for it. Its cheaper than a mifi as you get your phone and hotspot, and the service is cheaper (30 vs 60). But its only available currently on phones they are already charging a higher monthly fee for. I'd say they aren't too worried about it.
