Just got a CR-48

Oh man, wish I'd gotten one though. I guess I was just too late in trying.

But a very nice review and it's great to see something from Google getting high praise and compared to a Macbook :D

Hey guys I don't mean to get your hopes up with another alleged link but....

This doesn't seem to be accurate. There have been 3 shipped to my area (Conway, NH) (myself being one of the lucky recipients) none of them are listed at that link. There has also been one allegedly shipped to Concord, NH which is also not on that site.

Has any of the other recipients from this site been able to wireless tether from their android device to their CR48?

Mmm...I just found the 'basic' form (the one from presentation)...now I'm wondering if if I had filled out that one instead of the one linked on the webpage it would have given me a higher chance.

I filled out both LOL.

I filled out both LOL.

lol...actually, today's daily build of chromium (what I'm running) actually just popped up a message (well, I'm using the most loose definition of pop-up, it was still in the same window, and it was only on the new window screen), saying would you like to try out the netbook?, clicking yes took me to the basic page. :)

I've tethered through my Evo to the CR-48 a bunch of times with no problem. That I know of, nobody has been able to dual boot. I'll look up on that though.

Could you post the URL by chance?

https://services.google.com/fb/forms/cr48basic/ is the link (it's exactly the same as the other except replacing basic with advanced).

Or, and Jerzyroc, you'll need to put it into dev mode before you can put anything besides google's OS on it. But before you try to put traditional linux on it, might I recommend putting standard chromium (as apposed to chrome) on it, there's instructions here: Chromium OS Developer Guide - The Chromium Projects I have all of the software ready to go, but I'm still waiting for a CR-48 to do it on...

I signed up late Tuesday night. I live in Ohio. I have not received anything yet. I'm hoping there is still a chance! I was planning on giving my month-old netbook to my girlfriend as a Christmas gift (among other things, I'm not that cheap) and using this as my primary system.

Has it been determined whether or not the first tracker is legitimate? There are 11 being shipped to Dayton, I live in Miamisburg. It says none are going there. That would be a huge bummer.

I think/hope the tracker is bunk

According to Slickdeals, where this originated, people have been calling UPS with the tracking numbers found in the tracker and discovering that the packages are being delivered to their homes. It must be real then.

Yes, because we should always trust the author of a product's claim for it's validity. ;) (Although sadly, it does seem like you're right, although it may not be all the shipments, etc.).

Either way, we shouldn't be worrying about this. Only 10% of the machines have been shipped, and I highly doubt they'll be doing any shipping today, and even if they do, I doubt UPS will be shipping them today.

Oh, lame. I was reading through more deeply on getting chromium os on the cr-48 (at Cr-48 Chrome Notebook Developer Information - The Chromium Projects), and as expected, you have to flip the dev switch. But what's worse is that you have to keep it flipped (as I expected), but when it's flipped, every time it boots, it wipes the solid state drive, which adds 5-10 minutes onto whatever the boot time was (aka, because the boot time is about 15 seconds, that's about (assuming 7.5 minutes on average), 30x (or 3000%) longer, which, in a word, sucks. I don't mind it popping up with a message saying 'this notebook has been put in dev mode" (which it does), and I don't mind it clearing the drive the first time, but a wipe on every boot...ouch. Hopefully I can at least keep it asleep, and keep the short boot time. Oo

Oh well, I still want one though, even if it goes into dev mode. ;)

Ouch, poor pooch. I really want one, but won't go that far, I'd keep my dog any day over having one of these.

My sisters jack Russell had a litter. The father is a docksun/wiener dog. This thing is ugly and I didn't take it by choice, she left it tied up next to my door. Grrrr

He, he, then I guess that's not really a sacrifice for you to get one such netbook, but more of something you want on two fronts.
