Hey everyone! I just my GS3 last night and I realized a few things.
First of all, is it normal for the RAM to always hover at like 500ish MB out of 780MB? When I clear it with the task manager it drops back to like 350-430MB. I also noticed it slightly lags and I thought this was supposed to have a quad core cpu?

Can anyone give me some tips?

theres loads of tips in the general s3 forum mate. adjusting the scaling in "developer options" is main way to speed things up (set both to 0.5 or zero)
and disable apps that cant be uninstalled that you dont use.
having nearly all the ram used is normal, spare ram is wasted ram and android handles it well.
my phone actualy scores higher in the Quadrant test app when i dont close apps or clear ram so never worry about that. trust the phone

global s3, UK. Ask me anything and ill reply even if its just an intelligent (or crazy) guess ;)

....also we'r gona get Jellybean very soon which i think the phone is built for and it should reduce lag in a big way :)

Alright cool. I'll post my about device when I'm on the computer.

Here it is!

EDIT: Gunna fix the about device link. On another note, I'm getting a very low Quadrant score imo. It's like 5200 overall as opposed to seeing others getting 5600+. Something is affecting the performance of my SGS3. Whilst typing this I cleared the memory, and closed all apps and now it's giving me a score of 5000.

Please help me out guys!

53** is kinda average but ive noticed that u get a higher score with wifi off and mobile data on. my highest score was mid-55** that was with the ram pretty used up and lots of apps open. aparently having a good sd card in helps with Quadrant and especialy Antutu test results so il see wot i get when my sandisk class 10 32gb gets delivered.. hopefuly tomorrow :)

I think I'm gonna get a replacement. Games like temple run occasionally freeze and its quite frustrating. The overall performance of the phone is quite low compared to other people I've seen with the intl version and videos. It just generally feels slower than it should be.

Like I said, Temple Run lags and freezes sometimes. Other times I get some random app crashes. I did a wipe by holding the power button and the volume and stuff and its working a bit better but Temple Run still sometimes freezes (tho it's less).

So it be really helpful if people could post on whether I should replace it or is it just that something is wrong with the software? It's my first android phone so I don't really know much.

Please help guys.

your cpu (in blue) should beat the Htc One X mate so looks like u have a problem :( temple run should run perfectly (it was fine on my last 1.4gh single-core phone with half the ram) so id return it unless anyone has a solution
sorry about the dropbox link. upload isnt working :(

I'm gonna return it. It's just not acting like how a Galaxy S3 should be acting ya know?
Would my device info shed further further light into this? Here's the dropbox link to my device info.

It's telling me that no update is available...

Edit: I'm getting sick of this. I think the device is actually overheating. The bottom of the phone starts to feel warm-up whenever I launch a game or something.

This is ridiculous. My first android and its already overheating and I've only had it for like 2 days. Sigh.

all androids heat up. the s3 shouldnt go above 45?c in my experience.
do you have samsung Kies installed on your computer?
its a horrible programme but when you plug your phone in, it should tell you theres updates available to download. i dont use it coz ive been lucky with over-the-air updates but im terrible with computers..

I used Kies and it said it was up to date... I'm not understanding why it's saying that though.

I called my carrier and explained the situation to them and they said they'd give me a new one.

Can firmware really make the thing stop freezing in games like Temple Run and Dead Trigger? It's also a bit laggy when I press the power button to unlock, as in it takes like a second or more to actually turn on to see the 'Swipe to unlock' message.

I'm just frustrated lol. I have nothing against Sammy or Android though. I know it's natural to have a faulty device sometimes. Let's see what would happen if I get the new one, though that won't be for another like, few days I guess.

I'm not in the US though. I'm gonna back up everything and just wait for the replacement. Man this is annoying. I can't help but launch Temple Run or Dead Trigger but TR freeZes every so often, and DR randomly crashed on me. Sigh.

On the bright side thoughts least I get to pick up a blue S3 instead. I have the white but I just prefer a nice smooth Pebble Blue colour!

Something is definitely wrong with your device. When I got mine it was virtually flawless...and now as I flashed the leaked Jellybean firmware on it, it's many times sweeter. Hope you get a better replacement so you can experience the World's Best Smartphone.

good luck with the next one. i got the white one but changed it to black carbon with a Decalgirl skin n now its SEXY. the blue one is really nice though, saw one behind glass in a shop and was convinced it was the black one till the guy got it out and i saw it at different angles :)

They told me to come Tuesday since Monday is a holiday here. I'm just gonna make the most of this one until I get the new one.
