please explain

I'm a non-tech middle aged mamma, just joined site to relieve some (lots of) ignorance. How is this phone, just being introduced now, "older technology"?
and how come reviews rarely mention phone quality: ease of making calls, sound quality on and off speaker, ease of VM retrieval etc?
(i'm in the market for a new phone and that is one of my top four criteria)
Thank you

Just went to BB, Sam's and Costco. Sam's and BB did not have it yet and Costco had it but would not sell it outright.

I'm not sure if it would be worth it to add another line to get it for $79 or just buy it outright. I would not really have a use for another line.

My phone right now has 1.01gb internal free, but I've installed 8 or 10 apps if that makes a difference.

I went by a ATT store to check on my employer discount & they said that the phones most definitely should not be sold until the release date. She had never even seen an Inspire. I told another BB about having the phone & she really wanted to know who sold it to me. I didn't say.

The highest I got around town today was 4135kbps down.

Give it a couple of more days once more people will have a chance to play with it you will start to hear what everyone thinks about it. If you are use to a smartphone of any kind you should not a problem with this phone. Even if you have not used a smartphone you just would need to spend some time just playing with the phone.

You can also read more about this phone at HTC Inspire 4G - Android Forums. There seems to be a more lively discussion over there and less negativity. Not to say there will not be more here after tomorrow as I would expect the discussions to pick up once we all get our hands on it.

Feel free to ask any questions you have.

Just picked mine up from Radio Shack. I did not preorder and I paid full retail. The manager could not sell it to anyone activating today but since I was paying full price, he went ahead and did it. They had to sell me gift cards anf the manager will use those to ring up the phone tomorrow. I can then go back and get my receipt later. I also had to agree not put my sim into it until tonight. At least I can play with it at home on wifi.

How much was full retail?

1GB after installing 10 apps is nice. Also, getting over 4000kbps down is very good b/c my iPhone 3GS gets 2000 or less.

$449.

I thought about waiting but I had been given an IP4 Otterbox Defender from there with a Holiday gift card. They agreed to take it back so that knocked $50 off the price. I went to 2 COR stores today and was told the phone would be $479. I have seen all the people talking about $399 so it was a wash. If I did not have the Otterbox, I would have waited.

1gb for real? What happens after 20 apps, 500mb left. I had 60 or so on my 16gb iPhone and had 12gb of free space left. Concerns me!!

Picked mine up from costco today as well, Coming from a Blackberry bold 9700 I feel like a freaking moron with this. Never used an android before......lol. But I am playing with it, I learn pretty quick.

I picked mine up from Costco today and in the process lost my unlimited data plan. The basics of it are I had an unlimited plan which they tried to reassign to the new phone and could not do it, then there was no way they could put the unlimited plan back on my own phone because they don't offer it any more. An at&T rep is supposed to be looking into it, I think I am going to have to go to battle tomorrow to get my data plan back. The phone is sweet, but I am not stoked about loosing the unlimited data.

This happened to me as well, I called AT&T before i went and they noted my account, when I got to costco, they couldn't keep the plan but the man stayed on the phone with at&t and they submitted a case for me, the man from AT&T said there will be no problems getting back the unlimited data

Just remember if the people want to give you a hard time, speak to a manager, if they can't help, speak to their manager. Eventually you'll get a manager high up enough to correct this situation. You'll just have to make sure it is back on the next bill.
